Re: 1961 Cruise o matic dipstick length
Alan, Am I reading that document above to say our caps are copper colored? The TSB was written for 1964s - given the Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange listings from July 1967 does not say the C1AA-A indicator replaced the C1SZ-B, C2SZ-A or C2SZ-B indicators, I'd say no. Notice the TSB noted overall le...

1961-1963 Transmission Identification Changes
While researching a question about transmission oil level indicator lengths I came across a Technical Service Bulletin from 1962 showing changes in transmission ID plates and serial numbers from start of 1961 production through 1963. I'm posting this here for reference. TSB 7051-11 5-21-62 61-63 tra...

TSB Incorrect Indicator Length
In researching the question of indicator length, I came across a Technical Service Bulletin from late 1963 dealing with 1964 C-O-M indicators. This should help to illustrate what to measure. While it gives a '61 Full-size car part number C1AA 7A020-A1 or -A2 and a length of 20" from the end of ...

Transmission Oil Level Indicator Length - Request for Measurements
Sadly, Ford's parts books don't have a length, i.e. the '60-'64 "Blue Bible." They do list a part number, C1SS 7A020-B, for '61, and for '62 there are two numbers - one before 2/22/62 uses C2SZ 7A020-A, and from 2/22/63 through '63 a third dipstick (technically called a 'transmission oil l...

Door actuator bracket details
Thanks for the info. I purchased a pair of actuators identical to the original 63s' pictured, but the brackets are different. I wanted to have a pair of brackets fabricated and riveted to the actuator body, hence the 'dimensions' request. I had a few free minutes earlier this week to get measuremen...

Re: The smells
Just got back from another drive and after parking in the garage, 15 minutes later I walk back out and the garage smells like an old car. Nothing like it. Smells like music trigger the memories. A cooling car in the garage is something you will never forget. Smelling the exhaust, the engine compart...

Re: Replacing one of my wire wheels
Hi Guys, I have still not solved the problem of determining exactly what brand of wire wheels are on my 56 T-Bird. I was under the impression that they were Cokers but have recently learned that Coker wheels have 48 spokes - mine have 56 spokes. So far, the only brand I have been able to find that ...

Re: '63 M-code coupe factory wheels
Chances are it was originally delivered with steel wheels and either the standard full wheel covers or the optional 'Deluxe' covers with the same spinners used on '63 Sports Roadsters. The Deluxe covers were both a factory and a dealer option, as were the wire wheels. The 14"x5.5" steel r...

Re: 56 Hard Top
While not addressing the question of which top was 'standard' for each year, it's generally understood that the least-expensive top was the 'standard' top for each model year, in this case the non-porthole tops for '55, '56 and '57. I need to dig into pricing information I have in my research files ...

Re: Front Coil Spring Removal
It probably would be helpful to remove the bumper bracket before attempting to remove the coil. The spacers are an aftermarket item that a prior owner must have installed to correct a weak spring/ride height issue. You'll want to remove them to allow for more compression of the spring. TAKE HEED - d...

Re: Installing vacuum door locks on my 63 Thunderbird convertible.
Alan can you send me the dimensions of the installation BRACKETS for the 63 vacuum door lock actuators. I am planning to have a pair of brackets machined. If you're looking for the dimensions/layout for the holes in the door, this is what I've prepared for the article that will appear in an upcomin...

Re: 1966 Convertible with 428 and tripower
At least 1 out of every 4 (and up to 1 out of every 3) had the 428, so that's hardly rare, but still desirable. Tonneau could be ordered as an add-on from the parts counter but was not advertised as a factory-installed or dealer-available option for 66 - aftermarket reproductions came out in the lat...

Re: Unknown Button Center Console
Here's the operating instructions for the automatic speed control, along with the cover page from my reprint of the 1964 "Registered Owner's Manual". I don't have the speed control but kinda wish I did.... very nice! Inside the front cover or on the back cover there should be a form numbe...
