I've always had good luck with Thunderbird Headquarters when I had questions about parts. They stock a lot of new and used stuff. Also their catalog has a good collection of pictures of how things go together- better than the shop manual. The Birds Nest is a good source too.

You can try spraying TV Tuner spray cleaner on the rheostat and working it back and forth to clean off any crud. WD40 would work too. It's a cleaner and easier job if the switch is out of the dash. Radio Shack used to sell a TV tuner spray cleaner - dunno if they still do.
