engine stalls over speed bumps

if i cross a parking lot speed hump somewhat diagonally, and it causes the car to rock/wobble side to side as is typical, my engine will stall out or stumble. does this sound familiar? reminds me of a ground strap issue i once had on another car, but in this case the lights don't flicker, it would b...

help for a worn windshield?

my '63 windshield is very solid, but it's a bit grainy from road wear, i guess. main problem is, i get a glare from headlights at night, probably due to micro-pitting and wiper wear. meanwhile by day, it's just fine. i've tried a few standard cleaners, but i'm wondering if y'all have found something...

how to change user name?

i recently acquired a fun nickname from my cruising group, and would like to use it here.
how can i change my user name? i don't see any option in my profile, etc.

hopefully i wouldn't have to start a new profile.

cheers,

Re: 1963 Thunderbird gas mileage

Thank you for the info, including a little bit of the road test article. My car is getting some 2 MPG less, on average, than the test car got. These cars are not fast, but they were not intended to be that way. They were personal luxury cars, not Corvettes. Thank you Jim Greene not a Corvette indee...

fender top trim - repro quality and match?

hey gang, has anybody tried the current repro fender top molding/trim? are they nice? if i replace my left one with a repro, would it basically match my original on the door, and on the other fender? other than weathering, etc. my existing pieces are excellent. but i have to replace my left fender t...

Re: are the L and R headlight buckets interchangeable?

Funny thing is that when it comes to 64/65 (and possibly 66) each "pot" is unique to its location. There is a HL, a HR, a LL, and a LR. Plus the pots are marked as such. There was a post to the FORUM on this subject, awhile back. Do a SEARCH and find out. The same marking procedure is tru...

are the L and R headlight buckets interchangeable?

i'm asking about the the black bucket that is the very back of the headlight assembly. it looks to me like Left and Right are the same part, but i only have one to look at, and my manual is not at hand... in this diagram it's the uppermost piece in the back: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51438...

anybody tried the repro hood trim/eyebrows?

hey gang. gonna need to replace my hood center trim and eyebrows. what do y'all think of the current repros from Pat Wilson/Larry's, etc.? that sure would be a time saver, but how is the fit? and finish? i have a line on some decent used ones, but our re-chrome shops have a very long wait, and i'm o...

Re: what size wrench for this '63 hood release pivot?

turns out the bolt head was 7/16! after shooting WD-40 all over both sides and letting it soak in for a few days, i got lucky with the short extension in the cheap-ass socket set i bought at Harbor Freight on my way back to the garage. had to fit the socket and extensions to the bolt, then sneak the...

Re: what size wrench for this '63 hood release pivot?

great tips, Rusty~! back in my wrenching days i had a flex adapter for ⅜ drive and it was darn handy. i should hunt down a replacement. most of my Craftsman auto tools were stolen years back, when i was only driving modern cars, but i'm starting to miss them now! and yeah - i keep forgetting how che...

Re: what size wrench for this '63 hood release pivot?

thanks fellers. Rusty that was my ballpark guess for the wrench size, too, by eye, in person. and ICON's data of 5/16" would indeed seem to indicate thread diameter, being that the nut spec is also 5/16, though the head of each seem different. the heads appear to be at least 1/2", but i ca...

what size wrench for this '63 hood release pivot?

hey gang. i'm trying to open the hood release on this '63, but a front-end crash has the bumper pinned against the release lever, in the center of the grille. so it won't pull forward like normal. i figure if i can unbolt the lever where it pivots to turn the long horizontal rod, i could then try th...
