Re: Introduction

My fav color for any Ford, love that dark burgundy.

The 4 door is a cool car no doubt, welcome to the fun!

Re: sequential are a pita

I tried to sort out the sequentials on my 69 Tudor a few years ago. Bob was all kinds of help, but electronics have always been rough for me. I misdiagnosed the issue as the box in the trunk and bought one. Sadly, I think it is actually the column switch that is causing problems. I rigged up a temp ...

Re: 1968 under dash flasher?

If you have the original build sheet, the build date is a section at the top called Schedule Date. On Line A - boxes 35 and 36 are the day of the month (in numbers) and box 37 is the month by alpha code. My month is E, so May. My Schedule Date boxes read 29E, so I take that to be May 29. My Marti re...

Re: Restoration Project

Cool project. I have seen precious few Birds of our generation around Toronto the past 3 years - in fact I have only ever seen 1 in real life. A few posted for sale on Kijiji, but not many of this vintage around. When I was looking, I ran into a 68 that needed some work, but it looks like you have t...

Re: New battery

I went to CARQUEST, good call as they are around 4km from my house, and discovered that they no longer carry Interstate. Ended up with one of their brand, with a 3 year warranty for $120 or so. Plus the core charge and tax of course. I have not put it in the car yet. It is raining here, and I don't ...

Re: New battery

Thanks for the reply. My mistake, I do own a Battery Tender, but I use that term interchangeably with trickle charger. I did not know they were different. All those years with bikes taught me well the battery removal and "tender" treatment during the winter, I have done that for the batter...

New battery

It seems that my battery is no longer holding a charge very effectively. Hard to know how old it is, it came with the car from PO. I have owned it for 3 years now. I am having to trickle charge it to get the battery back up from just letting the car sit for 2 weeks. Recommendations for a reliable, a...

Re: 1967 proper tire size, in current sizing?

Sadly I cannot figure how to measure it! I have the original spare I could easily measure since it is not on the car. The rear of the car sags below the top of the tire, so getting an accurate measure with a measuring tape is proving impossible to the % of accuracy you boys are throwing around. I fe...

Interesting background, great reading!

My 1969 currently has a General radial on it, with the 225/75/R15 on it so I guess the PO did the right thing.

Great questions, but first of all congrats on the purchase! I am no authority on it, but do own a very low mileage very original 69 Bird, so I can offer you an owner's perspective, and some of the choices I have made over the past 3 years. One of the clients of my firm specializes in car restoration...

Got it all sorted.

There are indeed 4 belts on a 1969 429 with AC.

Had a loose exhaust tightened up too, good to lose that noise.

Interestingly I received a call from my mech. There are 4 belts on my 429? The ones I bought for myself at Partsource for Xmas don't fit either. I guess I deserve it for doing preventative maintenance! He has the belts off, and the new proper ones will come in the AM. Guess I will just let him handl...

The 4 in there should signify the rear end, according to my Marti report for my 1969.

Mine has the common 2.80 standard axle ratio - I'd bet the same for yours.
