I use the Motorcraft FL-1A filter, mostly because it's an excellent filter, and being a Ford part, it's somewhat authentic.

I always use thread compound when installing new plugs - makes them easier to get out when it's time to replace them. I also put some dielectric grease on the top of the plug, it improves electrical contact and makes the boots easy to get off.

I do own a copy of the shop manual for my car, but it doesn't show the location of either of these parts. I have ordered both parts from the Bird Nest and asked them to include instructions when they ship them to me. Regarding the trans. throttle stop, Bird Nest says your car will not idle correctly...

Trans. throttle stop location

My 64 Bird is missing its transmission throttle stop and throttle return spring bracket. I have no idea where these are supposed to be mounted or how difficult it is to do. If someone could post instructions, or better yet, pictures of how these should be attached it would be much appreciated. Thank...

'64 Carb question

My '64 T-Bird has a non-original carb on it. The number on the front-left side of the carb is C3AF AU. Can anyone tell me what model of Ford this carb was designed for? Thanks for your help.

- Engine running at curb idle speed (550 rpm in Drive)
- Disconnect vacuum advance line at distributor
- Set initial timing at 6 degrees BTDC

Flickering lights

I suspect I may have a problem with the voltage regulator in my '64 Bird. The symptoms are - Headlights, dash lights and interior lights rapidly flickering, or changing intensity. Also, the ammeter on the dash moves quickly back and forth within a small area near the center of the dial (meaning it's...
