Re: engine bay questions

Buddy, while you are fooling around with the hinges, take a good look at the pivot points. They almost never got lubricated and the shafts wore the holes in the bracket oval. You will see many cars with these pivot shafts welded. In most instances, the person doing the weld did not align things up c...

Re: AC CLUTCH POWER WIRE LEAD

I see that Dynamat has a new product called "Dynacore" that comes in 1/2" and looks like it might be a good candidate for underhood insulation that does not have the fiberglass look.

Re: 64-66 horn brushes

In the 64 there is only one horn brush. I can't speak for the other years, because the steering wheel changed.

Re: 1964 Ammeter and ACC Wiring

I've been looking at the wiring diagrams that are in the shop manual and the closer I look the more confusing it gets. The power to the ammeter comes from the battery on a black wire that goes through a connector labeled 100A, The diagrams don't identify the color after the connector, but I assume s...

Re: Rear subframe rail rust, mouse nests

I am following every post and am amazed at the work you are doing. On my 64 the trunk was good when I bought it, but the lid seal was in poor shape. I foolishly did other things for a couple of years first and when I got to the trunk, water had leaked in enough to rust out the floor. Fortunately, Cl...

Re: Passenger reclining seat problem

Have a look at this thread: Front passenger seat just snapped back/broke (just copy and paste into the "Search" box at the upper right) in this forum. I didn't go through the whole thing but there seems to be a fair bit of information there. Consider a search with a few different keyworks....

Re: 65 shift linkage adjustment

Alan, I believe the Harbor Freight chain breaker (I assume that's the tool you are referring to) has a 1/8" punch. That's larger than the roll pin in the shift lever if memory serves me right. Being hardened steel, it probably won't be easy to resize.
Go for it if you want.

Re: 65 shift linkage adjustment

Take care if you are knocking the roll pin out. Hammering down on the shift lever collar can damage the column. I get a piece of 2x4 of the right length and drill a decent sized hole in the end so the pin will have somewhere to go and align it under the lever collar. I make it a little shorter so th...

Re: 1966 Interior Paint and Dye

I purchased leather seat covers and matching dye from Thunderbird Headquarters. Excellent quality. I dyed a console cover, changing it from green to white with no problems using their vinyl dye as well as freshening up the door panels. Drop them a line with your paint codes.

Re: Heat/defrost plastic scratches?

Toothpaste will often work on hard plastics such as headlights, but isn't a good choice for the softer ones like the heater control lens or clock. Norvus is the best around, as Alan said, but you need at least 2 or the grades, scratch remover and polish, and they are a bit pricey. Home Depot has 2 o...

Re: Jamco dual master cylinder and booster conversion

You are at the cheap thrills time that I was at when I took my 64 out for a first test after installing discs on the front. Stopping at idle or from almost no movement is nothing near the same as thousands of pounds at speed. Rolling down the laneway and hitting the brakes for the first time is a li...

Re: Thoughts on next step

There is a seller on eBay that goes under the name freedomleather that lists quite a few wiring harness components. His prices seem a bit high, but you might contact him and see if you can get a deal for all the sections you need. However, I suspect that as you get into it, not all sections need rep...

As in all electrical circuits, the simplest path is the best. georgemii wrote: The other half - meaning from the battery to the frame - supplies the return path (“ground”) for electrical loads not mounted on the engine.
