Re: 3 spd. overdrive

I was looking through the shop manual and the two easiest things to check are the fuse which is good and to make sure the O.D lever is pushing the lever on the tranny all the way back to engage the O.D and it needs a 1/4" space between the bracket and the handle when pushed in which mine doesn'...

3 spd. overdrive

So, I took my 56 for a cruise on the open highway doing about 55 mph at about 2500 rpm I pushed in the O.D lever and let off and let off the gas and then gave it some gas, it free wheels when you let off the gas but doesn't feel like it shifts into high gear and the rpms didn't drop going the same s...

Overheating

I've heard a lot of talk on here about overheating, I have been driving mine quite a bit the last few days, getting a front-end alignment and having new mufflers put on. It's been anywhere from 97 to 101 degrees around here and to get where I was going there is a lot of stop and go waiting for light...

Re: Pertronix Install

If you're not using a ballast resistor than your correct the red and brown wire would go to the + on the coil, the only difference between yours and mine is the red wire from the harness on mine is going through the ballast resistor and then to the + side of the coil.

Re: Mecum Indy Gordon Smith Estate Collection

CRyan, if your serious about buying a 55-57 bird you might want to check out the online auction bring a trailer, they have quit a few birds that show up on there, you can put in make and model and see ones that are live or go back and see what ones have sold for. A pretty nice black running and driv...

Re: Air cleaner options

55blacktie, very well said agree 100%, everything that I have done could be put back to stock but what fun is that. Like you said there's plenty of examples of that out there.

Re: Air cleaner options

I think I will leave well enough a lone , seeing the oval air cleaner just got me thinking again. I'm definitely not pulling the intake off, I'm happy with the way it looks. I also installed one of his aluminum valley covers.

Re: Air cleaner options

Yes, it's a Mummert intake, it's the one for the T-bird it supposed to be lower than the one he makes for the full-size ford.

Re: Air cleaner options

I really like the look of the air cleaner it goes good with the valve covers, for some reason I couldn't get one to work on mine, I do have an aluminum intake with a Edelbrock carb. So, i ended up using a drop base 14" bottom with a 2" element and a rounded top. but know that I see yours I...
