Fuel sending unit access

I'm trying to get my 63 hardtop up and running after sitting 17 years. I'm working of the fuel system now. I need to access the fuel tank sending unit and I assumed I needed to drop the fuel tank to get to it but I did a search and found one thread where someone claimed that there is an access panel...

And I thought Y-Blocks could have a mixed bag of parts! Just amazing what happens over the years, but that is part of what makes this a fun hobby, right? I think you got it right Joe! It can be really annoying finding stuff like that but you know what? I think it's part of the hobby really....

I never suggested it was anyone else's idea to buy a new pump other than my own. I was agreeing that there is most likely corrosion on the threads between canister and the pump. My logic tells me the car hasn't been run for 17 years and who knows how long the fuel pump was on the car before that? I ...

Just a quick update. I did as previously described and welded the rod pieces on the wrench. Didn't work. Must be what Brian suggests. The car's been sitting for 17 years....... I'm buying a new pump.

Thanks for the help. I'll be back!

Thanks Guys. I bought an adjustable oil filter wrench that goes down to 2 1/2". If that doesn't go small enough I'm going to weld pieces of 1/4" rod onto the jaws of the wrench that will fit into the indents of the canister. Pretty sure that will work.

Thanks again

Fuel filter canister

I have a 1963 Thunderbird I bought from someone who stored it for 17 years. I need to change the fuel filter that's on the pump. It's a canister style AC Delco. How do I unscrew the canister to replace the filter? I have a shop manual but it doesn't explain how to grasp the canister. Is there a spec...

Stainless strip/trim removal

Hi Guys, New 1963 Bird owner here and I need some help. The stainless steel strip on the top of the passenger side door is damaged but I have a donor car with a good one so I would like to swap them. How do I remove it? Do I need to remove the inside door panel? That's what I'm assuming, but you you...

That's good advice as it turns out. The windows all work! I just assumed they wouldn't after sitting for so long. I'm very happy!

There's something wrong with the alternator. That's where the power draw is. Gong to take it off and get it rebuilt.

Thanks all.

Just bought a 63 Thunderbird. I have questions....

I just bought my first (1963) Bird yesterday from a friend's estate so I'm familiar with it's history. He went through the car and most things have been rebuilt or fixed but the car has been sitting for over 10 years so it needs a lot of tinkering to get it going again as it has a few problems. I ha...
