Re: 64,65 or 66 Flexplate 390
make sure you understand the '65/66 184-tooth flexplate is not the same as the '64 153-tooth unit, speaking strictly for a stock 390/MX application.

Going West by jtschug » Fri Apr 23, 2021 4:38 am After more than a quarter century here in the Great Lakes my fortunes have turned in Detroit, so I'm going west to take on new opportunities. Specifically I'm taking a job in Livermore California, and I'm brining my Thunderbird with me. Well, no need...

vacuum the system down for 12 hours. and charge with the appropriate quantity of Enviro-Safe (the conversion is 6oz. of ES is equivalent to 18 oz. R12). try doing a Google on what R1234yf is... Which has phased out R134a https://www.es-refrigerants.com/products/w/id/744/t/enviro-safe-industrial-r13...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?
the expansion valve wrapped with aluminum tape to act as a heat shield, but this wasn't necessary. Just helped me feel better hehe. This whole thread is really curious. I'm just looking at clues and details. Is aluminum tape a factor in this? This is not a criticism, it's a question. Is it really a...

Re: You probaby won't believe this
It is technically possible to access the blower cage section of the AC plenum, since this is where the fan and supposedly acorn collection is, without removing the dash but it's time consuming, and a lot of disassembly. !. If you remove the lower passenger side dash panel, some working room opens up...

Re: Brakes
Somethings not right. I’ve switched to front discs very recently but otherwise I drove and stopped my ‘64 on 4 drums and a stock master cylinder for thousands of miles over 8 years. You saying “a lot of leg strength when the car has momentum” is mildly troubling. I want you to have more trust in you...

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.
Can't help there, sorry. Some other thoughts that might help, though. I was replacing wiper lines, so it was easy to drain all parts including the wiper pump with the exception of the gearbox. By manually turning the steering wheel, most of what's there (very little anyway) is driven out through the...

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.
There have been some pretty poor rebuilds on Eaton pumps; some hacks out there. if your gearbox is a Redhead, it's not your problem; none are better. Back on Eaton pumps, I've paid for rebuilt pumps twice over the years, shipped both back for replacements until they sent ones that worked somewhat ok...

Re: Seat belt light
I built a delay circuit for my 64 to turn the light off after 20 seconds. ...I've got the schematic somewhere and can dig it up if you want it... Search under "delay off timer 12 volt" Terry 64HT Thanks for this idea, Terry. During daylight hours I never notice that light--it stays on for...

Re: front brake issue 1966 Thunderbird
I pulled the offending caliper but did not disconnect it. Pushed on the brake pedal, one piston advanced slightly the other three didn't move. Lots of rust and dirt behind the pads on the pistons. I can rotate that one piston slightly but not the other three. Am I correct in thinking replace rather...

Re: front brake issue 1966 Thunderbird
Rigid isn't a word I'd like to describe the front hoses. That sounds like they're about to crack or probably have fine cracks already. Just get rid of them unless you really love to gamble. True, it's the outer liner, but if that rubber's hard, that's a sign they're pretty old. Yes, all the pistons ...

Re: Points or Electronic Ignition
I may represent a minority sample here. I’ve had my ‘64 about seven years and been running points without issue all along. Proper care, regular driver, etc. What I wonder about is what are the conditions that make my OEM setup so consistent? I hear so many have ended their troubles by switching but ...

While you’re there, set your carb down on a table saw or something else you can verify is certainly flat to verify the base is flat. Some people think aping down on those nuts is manly or something—it just warps the carb base and helps the gasket to fail. The torque values in the book are, shoot, I ...

Here's the complete '65 T-Bird assembly (MC, booster, proportioning valve, bracket and push rod) I bought from ABS a couple of weeks ago. May not be pertinent to you as it sounds like you want to keep your existing booster. My kit is different from the kit pictured in the ABS catalog (they've chang...
