One other tip: the edges were a little loose in spots. Superglue used sparingly did the trick. Yes, under the front lip of the dash are four screws to remove the panel the clock is in. It sort of folds down and hangs once unscrewed. duh....it's a 1966 thunderbird Town Landau.

The grill under the windshield on the dash needs to come out so I can recover the cracked vinyl dash. I have taken out the only two screws I can see and it is not coming out. Is it possible this crews in from under the dash? Any advice would be helpful. I'm trying to do this today. Thanks.

KKC, when I say dirty, I mean there was a sort of black dust on everything like disc brakes will leave on your wheels. There was a black film on the inside of the cover. I can't find the ROT sheet yet. I pulled the first spark plug. The stroke measured about 3.75 then I turned the engine and got about 4.25. I don't know how exactly to measure this or get BDC. When I did it, I measured to the bottom of the plug threads. Is this correct? CAn you give me any advice on ...

redstangbob-thanks all for your comments. I will check the stroke as you suggested. Can I assume the stroke on a 428 would be an inch or so more than the 390?
