Re: A Pillar cover removal

I tackled the A pillar mouldings last night and found that you do not need to remove the interior mouldings to remove the exterior mouldings. I think the vinyl top on my car was replaced by the previous owner and when the drip rails were reattached, rivets were used instead of screws. The drip rails...

Re: A Pillar cover removal

Thanks,....looking through the Body and Service manuals, it looks to me that the inside "A" pillar moulding needs to be removed to get at the screws holding the outside, stainless moulding in place??? Before I start removing the interior mouldinds, can anyone confirm that???

A Pillar cover removal

I need to replace the windshield on my 66' Town landau and I'm looking to remove the outside A pillar stainless trim. It looks to me that the drip rails overlap the A pillar trim pieces??? Can the A Pillar trim be removed without taking off the drip rails??? I hope they can because it looks like the...

Re: Leaking steering gear box

I was afraid of that. I'm thinking of dropping the gear box with the Pitman arm still connected to the box but disconnected from the rest of the steering linkage. The rebuilding shop would be better equipped to separate the Pitman than I am. Thanks for the response.

Leaking steering gear box

Working on a 66' which has not been run since 87'. The other day, I got the car to turn over, but couldn't get it to fire,..(no/weak spark issue),..but that's another story. While we were turning the engine over, I noticed fluid leaking from the steering gear box where the Pitman arm connects. It wa...

Re: Aftermarket brake proportioning valve

I picked up one of the adjustable valves today. Looks like it will work well. Did you mount it to the inner fender well like the original?? Thanks for the tip.

Aftermarket brake proportioning valve

Can anyone recommend a suitable aftermarket proportioning valve for a 66' (disk/drum configuration with single chamber master)?? I'm looking for something which will mount similarly to the original and for which I need to do minimal re-plumbing of the lines. Earlier this year, I exchanged my origina...

Re: Transmission cooling lines

So,...It sounds like we are landing on the trans outlet line should go to the upper port on the radiator and the lower radiator port goes to the rear (return) line on the transmission??? If so,...I'll need to crawl under the car and switch the lines for the third time. Or,..does it make any signific...

Re: Transmission cooling lines

Thanks to all those who contributed to this thread. I posed the question to my radiator guy, who is a bit "old school" as he actually repairs things rather than just replaces them and also works on many of the classic cars in the area. He told me that the transmission outlet line should go...

Re: Transmission cooling lines

Thanks for the reply, I'm thinking the transmission outlet lines goes to the bottom radiator inlet based on the following thread/discussion; http://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7009&p=88314&hilit=Transmission+outlet#p88314 But this thread was discussing a 61'...

Transmission cooling lines

I'm in the process of reinstalling my radiator for a 66', 390 with a C6 trans. and need to know which of the trans cooling lines, the front or back, is the outlet from the trans and which is the inlet back to the trans from the radiator. I've done some searching, but have gotten conflicting answers....

Re: Brake Booster Push Rod

Paul,...how did it work out without the spacer??? One of the T-bird parts vendors assured me that installing the spacer would not present problems, but with the spacer, there are only three threads on the booster studs to accept the Master cylinder mounting nuts. I don't feel comfortable with this s...

Re: Brake Booster Push Rod

A number of the T-bird aftermarket parts vendors offer M.C to Booster spacers for the 65' and 66' models. What's the deal on these spacers,...are they necessary ??? It appears that my booster pushrod is adjustable. Can you just adjust the length of the pushrod and not have to use the spacer???

Brake Booster Push Rod

I'm installing a brake booster and master cylinder on my 66'. I'm looking at the booster push rod that goes into the master cylinder and it just looks so "naked" to me. The end of the push rod just below the adjustment screw is splined and the diameter of the rod is quite smaller than the ...
