1965 Thunderbird Steering Wheel Play
My ‘65 Thunderbird convertible has developed an annoying wobble that is apparent through the steering wheel. In essence, I can move the steering wheel slightly ‘up and down’ as well as ‘left and right’. The outer column housing does not move, just the steering wheel and the shaft it is connected to....

1965 Thunderbird Ignition Switch Issue
I have a ‘65 Thunderbird convertible with a puzzling ignition switch issue. Periodically, the car will not turn off using the ignition switch. I have replaced the complete switch assembly twice (new replacement unit from Larry’s Thunderbird) and it will work fine for a while and acts up again. Are t...

Here is my 1965 flairbird, gets lots of looks whenever we drive it!
A great, highly original Thunderbird with 38,000 miles. Definitely a keeper.

Re: 1965 Convertible Trunk Area Redo
Regarding replacing the current liner, it is a combination of poor fit and stains/tears. It photographs much better than it looks. I will see what Larry's sends me, but if it is vinyl I will send it back. The car is a very nice and highly original example and I really want to fix some of the detail...

Best Option For 1965 Thunderbird Tires
I am in need of replacing the tires on my '65 Thunderbird convertible. In doing a quick search, it would seem there is a dizzying array of tire styles and options out there... and I am not certain which are correct. My goal would be to opt for a tire that has radial construction with a sidewall desi...

Re: 1965 Convertible Trunk Area Redo
Thank you Alan, your information is very helpful! Regarding the trunk liner, does anyone make an accurate reproduction of the original style? Is the one I purchased from Larry’s the correct pattern and material? Or is it vinyl as well? Regarding the installation instructions, can you point me to a ...

Re: OEM Battery Size - 1965 Convertible
Thank you so much Alan, I am continually amazed and impressed by your knowledge of these cars! This fully answers my question and now I know what I need to find to correctly fit a 27F battery in my car. It is amazing to me how many different changes and variants Ford went through for something as si...

Re: Decypher 1965 Thunderbird Data Plate
Kartman01, I neglected to mention your Thunderbird was the 65,892nd Thunderbird built in the 1965 model year as found in the Vehicle Warranty Number (Consecutive Unit Number) stamped into your Data Plate. The total number of Thunderbird's produced in 1965 was 74,972. Of that total, only 6,846 were ...

Re: OEM Battery Size - 1965 Convertible
The parts suppliers that support the VTCI (Pat Wilson, Bird Nest, and others carry or can supply the trays and hold downs) From my experience the tray and hold downs are a multi fit item. The Hold down is slotted to fit either battery size. Do not think FORD would have 2 different trays and hold do...

Re: OEM Battery Size - 1965 Convertible
Alan, can you point me to the correct battery tray and hold down clamp for the OEM style 27F battery for a 1965 convertible? My car was built in May 1965. I have been searching and am finding conflicting information. Any help with original part numbers and/or correct/accurate re-pop parts will be a...

1965 Convertible Trunk Area Redo
IMG_6085.jpeg I have purchased an interior ‘trunk’ (I use that term loosely - it’s where the retracted top lives!) liner kit from Larry’s Thunderbird. Has anyone ever installed one of these before? Any tips or tricks? One question: there is a ‘suspended’ batch of electronics held by two rubber stra...

Re: 1965 Thunderbird Turn Signal Replacement Parts
If it's only one side not working it's unlikely to be the brake light relay which would affect both sides. You certainly wouldn't need to spend $90 on one - any automotive relay costing under $10 will work. The 66 relay is different to the 65 triangular shaped one but could be modified to fit. It w...
