Re: 64 Restoration

I completely forget if we had a kick panel under the passenger side dash, but the way the kit carpet sets are made, it sure looks like it needs one now, if it did not have one before. Has anyone here tried to install an under-dash panel before?

Re: 64 Restoration

Thanks, Patrick - I sent them the link to the interior and trim shop book reprint that's available on Amazon, to help guide them where they may not have done one before - They are primarily a European shop, so some of this stuff is probably new to them. They do youtube videos from time to time featu...

Re: 64 Restoration

Moving through the last few bits - Some non OE decisions had to be made to give the new rockers room to move, and to let the carb breathe a little better. They are correcting the pedal and I linked them to the reprint of the factory interior & trim manual that's on amazon. Getting close!

Re: 64 Restoration

Question for the experts - Is this the correct way to mount the accelerator? In my mind, I remember the pedal being mounted under the carpet, with it coming up from underneath, such that the screws are hidden and not distorting the surface. Is that right? They have me paying up for this part of the ...

Re: 64 Restoration

A few more progress updates - Seats will get a little more massaging to get the stitching lined up. A few before and after shots of various bits. Visors are fit for purpose after having 30-ish years of nicotine and mildew removed. All systems being restored to working, including the rear vents.

Re: 64 Restoration

Thanks JamesR! I think the grille we had was usable and is already back on the car, just not photographed yet. We've been back and forth about the radio - The original AM konked out, and I found an OE AM/FM on eBay, only to have that one fail a bench test. I can't tell if that's an issue with how th...

Re: 64 Restoration

Hey Terry - As I understood it, they embossed a pattern in to wet epoxy and painted over it once it was ready. I was not there for the exact procedure, but based on advice offered here on the forum and their experience, they got the smooth pieces to take some texture. I should mention the rear shelf...

Re: 64 Restoration

Some updates as we get to the home stretch: - We found a parts car that let us adapt OE AC trim to an aftermarket AC setup. Retrofit AC setup is in! - Color matching the new panels and seat surfaces with the rest of the interior. - Still trying out some ideas for how to replace the bonded vinyl to k...

Restoring interior textured metal?

We had an unplanned surprise with the interior metal on my 64 - The original looked like it had hide texture pressed into it, but when the shop stripped the surface rusted metal down to bare, the texture went with it. I thought pressing vinyl facing into a wet skim coat of filler could replicate it,...
