Re: 64 Bent Pushrods
Old gas bends pushrods. How old was the gas in it? Do you use gasoline stabilizer when the car is stored? A big reason for bending pushrods is that varnish builds up in the valvetrain (lifter bores, valve guides); things start to get gummy and 'sticky' and starting/warming up the engine in this con...

Re: 64 Bent Pushrods
The gas thats in there now is about 4 months old, with some MMO in there (not a fuel stabilizer, I know) . I've ran the engine and drove the car a good amount of times with this gas in there before I started to hear even a slight ticking. Before that, I had gas in there maybe 18 months before it ran...

Re: 64 Bent Pushrods
I worded it weird, it was extra oil, unused. It was leftover from when i changed it on my civic as it only takes 2qt. Used it in a pinch, and was trying to think of anything i did that couldn've caused this.

Also I had meant to put this under the regular 64-66 forum I apologize. Should I repost or could it be moved?

64 Bent Pushrods
Have me a 64 Thunderbird that I've found to have bent a few pushrods. I'm looking for any potential causes to this, and anything to look for when replacing them. It's a project car, have driven it only a handful of times. Have seen an older video of it running and the ticking is there but must have ...

Re: Steering shaft not fitting into rag joint
Please tell me if this is correct but im under the impression that the steering shaft is to fit into the joint as i have shown in the pictures: https://i.imgur.com/rWUwUXg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/B08b6oS.jpg Please note that i have taken the ragjoint apart, the pictures are taken from where the rest...

Re: Steering shaft not fitting into rag joint
It looks like the steering shaft & rag joint aren't on the car. Were they ever? Maybe they're the wrong parts? They were both in the car before i took them out. If indeed you have the correct shaft then I am wondering if you displaced the top bearing or bearing collar when you pulled it up to g...

Steering shaft not fitting into rag joint
I made a post here before asking about why my steering shaft wont stay in the rag joint, where i learned that you need to remove the bolt for it to slide in more. Now that I've removed the bolt i cant get the steering shaft into the rag joint far enough for me to be able to put the bolt back in, in ...

Re: steering shaft won't engage properly with the ragjoint
John, as Inspector said, your photos are great. I have seldom seen ones of this quality for locations within the car. Can you share a few of the techniques you use? Thanks Terry 64HT It helps that I had the wheel well panel out, but nothing too special. I use my iPhone 8+, but most smartphones made...

Re: steering shaft won't engage properly with the ragjoint
Good lord thank you all for your help. I went through this same issue on my 91 Civic earlier this year, you'd think I should've been able to figure it out.

steering shaft won't engage properly with the ragjoint
Hello all I have a bit of an issue with my 64 thunderbird. The steering shaft doesn't engage properly with the ragjoint. It engages good enough to be able to turn the wheels when the engine's running, but with no power steering the shaft will slip out. The steering wheel also doesn't sit in as far a...

Re: Brake Pedal Slow Retuen
My apologies for the late reply. Since last writing I have cleaned up, greased with silicone, and mostly reassembled the brake booster. I have gotten most of it put back together using pictures I had taken and a copy of the service manual I found online. For one I am very confident that the 64 boost...

Re: Brake Pedal Slow Retuen
Alright so I found a copy of the 64 service manual online and I found that there is no mention of a diaphragm or a pedal return spring. Only one that seems to be only for letting air pass through the diaphragm. since nothing looks to be broken I am gonna clean and reassemble the booster, and was won...

Brake Pedal Slow Retuen
My question is whether there is supposed to be a return spring anywhere in the brake booster or on the pedal, or if the pedal is supposed to return just on brake pressure, or the springs in the drums pushing the fluid back. I have a 64 and the brakes didn't work when I got the car. I figured it was ...
