Re: Fuel Pump rebuild
I can't remember where I saw it, maybe the restoration manual. Through the three years the filter design changed. It may have been the same with the pumps. I think they changed also but any replacements are of the later style. Maybe compare to '54 pumps and see if some of the design carried over int...

Re: Fuel Pump rebuild
It looks like the one on the left doesn't have the dual action vacuum assist on it and the hex head screws make me nervous. Probably a regular car pump. I'd go with the one on the right in the first picture.

Re: Hole in Firewall on my '57
Thanks for clearing that up that the picture was not your car. It may not even be there as not many know about it. Just look for another port on the radio, that looks like the antenna port but on the side It's a simple reactivation but a nice feature at the time. My 2018 Colorado P/U has that featur...

Re: Hole in Firewall on my '57
I haven't seen that either. I think the '55s & '56s had a tube from the manifold to the carb on the driver's side. It did not go internally into the manifold but only harvested the heat. The '57s all the choke heater hardware was on the passenger side and inside the intake manifold. If that inte...

Re: Hole in Firewall on my '57
That is an easy one. It is for the auto volume control on the radio. The faster you go the radio increases volume to compensate for the added wind noise especially if the top is off. It should be a greenish color. The interior part plugs into the case of the radio and the end just hanging down goes ...

OOPS
Left my gas cap at the last station when I filled up. Called but somebody threw it in the trash.

8-9mpg on my '57. I know it's a bit low but runs great and not rich.

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication
Thank you for that info. My car is a very early '57 production run # 5343 of the whole product line. So maybe it was a supplier issue as they used several different parts suppliers at that time. Even the clocks were different for the T-birds. pulled the front lense and blew it out. It still bobbled...

Re: FOM trans rough Park/N to Drive/Rev
I have not seen it mentioned here but type A was outlawed as it was based on whale oil. My understanding is that it was labeled type F as it was Ford's solution to that issue. GM and others took a different route.

Re: Troubleshooting a disconnected E-Brake cable
Samson, Your assumption is correct. On a properly adjusted/operating 55-57 bird park brake system the cable would have too much tension on the pulley to be accidentally dislocated by incidental contact while working in the area. This is true for either full on or full release position. Check the cl...

Re: Troubleshooting a disconnected E-Brake cable
Sounds reasonable to me. Must have been too loose to begin with if the cable was able to be knocked off the wheel.

Re: Air vent scoops/deflectors on a '57
It's amazing how much hands on assembly was back then even after Henry Ford came up with the assembly line even through the 50s. Now it's all automated robotic assembly with no personality so they load up the cars with questionable electronics. People have died because of electric door latches becau...

Re: FOM trans rough Park/N to Drive/Rev
I have always used type F. I have never noticed hard shifts but maybe because I have never known anything different. The only time I have ever gotten a clunk is when I was adjusting my carb and couldn't quite get it to low idle. I shifted it into reverse at about 1000rpm.

Re: Air vent scoops/deflectors on a '57
Thanks Icon. I mounted the driver's side today, but found the heater box is in the way of mounting the passenger side. I need to get a 90 degree drill so I can get access to install the 2 self tapping screws that were never there. Weird but there have been so many documentations of assembly anomali...
