I would do what machine head said. Check to see of the rockers match. If they don't, Hills may have a complete rocker arm assembly #6563. No price but to call.

The second photo shows original adjusters. They are held by friction. I have no idea what is on the other head. Definitely not stock.

paul2748 wrote: Thu May 09, 2024 8:45 pm Mosr speedo's have a small oil hole at the top where the cable goes in. A light oil, like 3 In One is the type to use.
As I said, the '57s are not built that way.

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

Well, I just crawled under there and there is no provision for oiling for a '57 speedo. Called the speedometer shop that rebuilt it and they suggested the cable may be too tight putting pressure on the magnet set. They said to loosen the nut 1/4 turn and see what happens. They have seen it before bu...

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

Thank goodness I'm small. Only 5'6" 125lbs. I used to install phones in cars so I'm used to working under the dash. Butt on the seat feet up the backrest so I'm not trying to squeeze in on the floor in front of the seat.

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

Has anybody found that oil port for a '57 speedometer. I think I saw a picture on another forum. My speedometer needle just quit moving on my last drive stuck at about 10MPH. it wavered just a bit at slow speed and then just quit moving. After I parked it slowly drifted back to zero. I just had it r...

Re: Worn out screw holes

When working with wood, toothpicks and white glue are your friend. But when it comes to steel different techniques are needed. It's the best solution I've found. As many times I've had to pull my door cards JB weld is the best solution I have found. The screws bite and sit secure like original.

Re: 55 Restoration Project

Don't we all at some point spend more than the resale value of our hobby? Fortunately they are not like a boat which will continue to depreciate over time. Your sunk cost at this point is nil so anything spent should bring the joy of ownership and experience should be worth the cost unlike the curre...

Re: 55 Restoration Project

Also contact the usual parts suppliers for their current catalogs. Hills, Concours, CASCO, NDP and Larrys but the last time I checked their paper catalog is being revamped but their website has current listings on line.
You also may consider joining CTCI and here at VTCI.

Re: 55 Restoration Project

Buy all the documentation you can find including the restoration manual. It's not inexpensive but minor in the scope of work you are undertaking. It is the 'bible' for authenticity. Then the shop manual and at different points you may want the electrical and trim & sealer manuals.

Re: balancing with ceramic beads

I have never heard of something like that. If the wheel is out of balance something inside the tire will just make it worse due to centrifugal force. There are stick-on weights that can go on the inside of the rim like are used on the old school mag wheels where there is no lip to attach standard we...

Re: Broken tach needle

It can. Just refer back to 55blacktie's post right after your first post. You can take a plastic spatula and slip it under the trim ring and it will pop out with the glass lense. It's just friction fit. I did that to mine to paint the needle with nail polish. Give a slight pull on the leftover point...

Re: Broken tach needle

Is the needle actually broken or just fell off the shaft. Is the shaft broken or still intact? if it just fell off you don't need to remove the tach, the surround and glass a just friction fit and can be popped off to get to the face.

Re: removing outer door knobs?

I've gotten pretty good at removing and installing the door panels as I had to replace my passenger window twice. Both from stress cracks as the window I inherited with the car got a chip in a lower corner and as tempered glass hates edge chips, it was not seated properly and the glass shop that set...
