Re: Rear subframe rail rust, mouse nests

Tbird is not dead. Been knee deep in wee bird, a '64 Falcon we picked up over the winter. Super fun activities such as convertible drain channel repair and cowl repair... All preparing me for getting back to the Tbird. 20231126_164907.jpg 20231213_210020.jpg 20240321_194654.jpg 20240405_165158.jpg I...

Re: Rear subframe rail rust, mouse nests

No progress lately. I took spring off to rebuild engines in two motorcycles, turned into some other projects as well. Hoping to get back to the Tbird soon. Recently picked up some parts that should help.

Re: Hood hinge bushings and pin source?

This is the sort of thing that gets me thinking about a mini lathe. I've had number of car and motorcycle projects that it would enable me to make replacements for NLA or custom parts. This is FIL's car, he won't spend anything to replace a hinge I've patched back together and there's bigger fish to...

Re: Floor pan replacement, advice?

Thanks, this was super helpful to get the gas pedal positioned right today. I went about 1/4"-1/2" farther back but same measurement side to side. Installed with #12-3/4" self piercing screws. The inside screw toward the tunnel hit the subframe rail, had to drill a 1/8" hole to g...

Re: '63 disk brake, need lower pedal and less effort

I realized the master was not sitting flush against the booster. GM master and booster is set up for an early Ford master. I had to grind down the mating surface edge of the master to get it to sit flush, tapered it into the recess of the booster and reset the booster to master pushrod clearance. Pe...

Re: 64 Restoration

Interesting. That would be a Comp 33-443-11. That's a lot of duration, advertised RPM range is 2800-6100. What heads are you running? The performer intake is a mismatch for this cam and if heads give a 9:1-9.5:1 compression with those pistons as I suspect the compression will be a mismatch for that ...

Hood hinge bushings and pin source?

'63 Thunderbird with a missing bushing and pin on one of the hood springs. PO replaced it with a bolt and peened over the end so the nut wouldn't come off. Another pin came loose and was seized in the bushing, freed that up and cleaned/lubricated then welded the remaining pins but would be nice to r...

Re: 64 Restoration

What cam did you use? I used the same pistons, Lunati 10330701LK 252/262 cam and expect about the same powerband. Was dyno test using headers or the logs you're running? I used Sanderson headers.

Re: '63 disk brake, need lower pedal and less effort

I swapped on a '67 Corvette disc/drum 1-1/8" bore master cylinder. There is some slop in the linkage I need to adjust out but even so, with the pedal to booster rod at the same adjustment as the 15/16" Ford master I can't get the pedal near the floor. I can probably get the pedal to a comf...

Re: 1962 floor panel replacement: GLUE?!?

First thing to note is there is always more rust than you think or hope, as seen in dude's video he had to weld in various patches to rusted areas beyond what the available panels would replace. Also note that the panel adhesive is expensive at around $60/tube, plus mixing nozzles, plus around $170 ...

Re: Cowl vent seal leak

Coated with Eastwood internal frame coating. First time using it, went too heavy on the patched area, bottom is thick and still drying. This stuff comes out like water. 20230708_111917.jpg I cut out a gasket for the vent assembly from some foam gasket material. Unfortunately started to tear it when ...

Re: Cowl vent seal leak

I found the '66 cowl vent diagram, oddly it was in the electrical assembly manual. The cowl vent seal part# is C0AB-6401970-C, NLA and nobody seems to repop them. Looks like similar are available for Mustang and other models but not sure on ID of the cowl vent assemblies in those. I may just use a b...

Re: Floor pan replacement, advice?

Thanks, this is super helpful! Could you measure the height of your brake pedal off the floor and how much higher it is than the gas pedal? Is yours stock booster and master or changed to what? This is FIL's car and he has some issues with brake pedal height above gas pedal, it was too high and he c...

Re: Cowl vent seal leak

I have one for the '66, it does not include any reference to the cowl vent assemblies, at least that I could find. In any event I was going to wait to dry out before taking a stab at this but since it's hot and humid I'd be wet anyway, so dove in. The cowl vent assembly was held in by only one screw...

Cowl vent seal leak

63 Thunderbird with air conditioning. Bad cowl leak on driver side, water gushes out onto the floor as fast as it goes into the cowl. It's hard to see that far back in the cowl, I suspected rot since that side was chock full of leaves but I cant' find a hole feeling from topside, checking with an en...
