Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

fewer teeth would result in it spinning faster. The gears are color coded as to how many teeth they have. With my '57 312 & auto trans it is red W/19 teeth. Hills catalog has color pictures. That makes sense :). I do recall reading *somewhere* that a lot of the gears these days are all the same...

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

During the time period these cars were designed the typical calibration was that 1000 revolutions should equal one mile. This also meant that 1000 rpm should make the speedometer register 60 mph. FYI When my 56 auto fordomatic 312 hits 60 I'm at 3000 rpms consistently. But my speedo is at 80. Wrong...

Re: the small hole in the spyder/wheel center between the lug holes, my understanding is that this was used in conjunction with the fixture that was used for either wheel assembly or tire installation, i.e. a locating pin to hold wheels in the same place for alignment of the valve stem hole. Well, ...

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

That's why the shop told me to back off the attaching nut. I don't know if I have an odd ball as the restoration manual says all three years do have the oil port. But it did say to try to get some oil inside and blow it around with compressed air. That sounds like a recipe for a mess, to me, rather...

Re: 56 Speedometer lubrication

Here's a picture that might help: I keep intending to try to oil this (to get rid of a little bounciness from 0-20 mph) on my 56, but every time I sorta feel like doing it, I think about trying to do it on my back, up into the dash, with that little tube from the machine oil bottle, and I just don'...

Re: Door lock locks, but outside pushbutton opens/unlocks it

Let me clarify, yet again. I KNOW about the knob having to be unscrewed to allow clearance. I've checked that (this problem exists with the knob unscrewed almost entirely, in fact).

That's not the problem.

Re: It looks like the dash is coming out......

When I rewired my 56, I used the Electrical Installation manual. Looking at the plastic card would drive me crazy. The manual shows how all the wires are run as well giving color codes,etc.. Both are useful for different things, of course. I'd highly recommend getting *both*...actually, getting ALL...

Door lock locks, but outside pushbutton opens/unlocks it

On my 56, this has been this way since I bought it a couple of years ago, but never bothered me enough to dig into. Out of curiousity, though... The driver's side door lock will work...the button moves down to the locked position, all the way (checked the height, etc., per the usual recommendations)...

Re: Then and Now in Business?

So I got one answer remotely replying to my question and still no one said for sure if they are still n business. Just everyone posting what they know about fuel pumps and bitching about the state of the hobby. Thanks. Infuriating, isn't it? At least you didn't get the typical internet forum respon...

Re: Then and Now in Business?

I'am sorry to admit this, It's a throw away disposable world today. The young are not interested. They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets, inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. (Variously attributed to Plato, Socrates,...

Re: '57 generator conversion

This is like kismet. I *just* rebuilt one of the generators for my 56 (car came with a spare), and it has the *exact* same setup (which obviously doesn't use the type of springs sold by the usual places), and I found the same issue...no way to convert it with the little kit that moves the armature p...
