During the time period these cars were designed the typical calibration was that 1000 revolutions should equal one mile. This also meant that 1000 rpm should make the speedometer register 60 mph. Let me clarify, yet again. I KNOW about the knob having to be unscrewed to allow clearance. I've checked that (this problem exists with the knob unscrewed almost entirely, in fact).

That's not the problem.

When I rewired my 56, I used the Electrical Installation manual. Looking at the plastic card would drive me crazy. The manual shows how all the wires are run as well giving color codes,etc.. Both are useful for different things, of course. I'd highly recommend getting *both*...actually, getting ALL...

On my 56, this has been this way since I bought it a couple of years ago, but never bothered me enough to dig into. Out of curiousity, though... The driver's side door lock will work...the button moves down to the locked position, all the way (checked the height, etc., per the usual recommendations)...
