Re: '62 Convertible Over-steer Problems

I believe it is the steering box. I had the same problem in my 62 coupe, turn slightly to the right and the car would dart way over to the right. Left was fine. As I understand it, there are valves that stick in the box that causes this. After a professional rebuild mine slightly darts in either dir...

Re: 1962 No Dash Lights or Turn Signal Indicators

There is a set screw underneath each gauge pod, remove and carefully remove the unit. Then can remove some screws and pull the gauges and backing plate out a little and have access to the bulbs behind there. Some bulbs rest inside little cardboard tubes that will fall out, bulbs will be coming out o...

Turn Signal Troubleshoot

Both turn signals decided to stop working awhile back. Fuse is good and I have voltage up to the flasher, and swapped out flasher still no flashing. Next step is to check the switch. I have a bunch of bullet connected wires hanging down under the column, pretty sure the switch connections are among ...

Re: Gas Gauge Mistake

Thanks for the replies, the $450 came from an email quote I got from one of the Catalog Parts venders. The other venders were out of stock. $450 would probably get me the whole gauge Pod I imagine. Haven't had time to diassemble and verify its the gauge itself or a bad connection. Any tips on disass...

Gas Gauge Mistake

Ok so my turn signals stopped flashing, I bought a replacement flasher. Searched online on its location in the car and saw a video with a guy holding the Gas / temp gauge pod in hand and showing the flasher mounted on the back of it. So I thought instead of trying to reach way up behind the dash, I ...

Re: Oil Cap Blew Off

I would warm the engine up to operating temp and pull out the PCV valve and open the cap on the other valve cover and see how bad the blowby is. Rev the motor and see how much smoke and pressure is coming out. Can cap off the vaccum line for the PCV valve first. A little is ok. A lot is a problem.

Re: Steering gear box

I didn't know there was external adjustments on these boxes! My box when I got the car darted or jogged over to the right when the wheel was turn slightly in that direction, left was ok. I removed and had it rebuilt and re installed. Now it does little jogs back and forth when turning slightly in bo...

Re: Steering Box and Engine Bump Stop? Question

Kiwi Bird, I was having a hard time with the master cylinder and booster conversion. Things weren't fitting right, and I really wanted to get the car back on the road so I ended up re installing the original master cylinder and booster. I discovered soon after my bad brakes were due to the passenger...

Re: C6 Transmission for my '62

I bought my '62 with a '66 390 and a C6 already installed. Works well. They changed the rear gears to a 3.25 also.

Re: Air knob

Yes, just opens up a vent. I have a Cherokee that I wished had this feature, with the windows down the wind noise is too loud. Windows up hot but don't want to use the air on a not real hot day. Needs a vent. There is also one on the passenger side.

Re: Question on rough starts

You can unhook the positive terminal cable and connect a test light between the battery and the cable, if it lights up when everything is turned off then there is a drain somewhere. You can then pull one fuse at a time and see which one makes the test light go out. That narrows it down to which circ...

Re: Question on rough starts

Is the engine turning fast enough without the charger? Maybe you have a slow battery drain that after awhile there is not enough juice to start the engine.

Re: Brake Self Adjusters

I pulled all 4 drums today and did a manual adjustment while I figure out what parts I need. The passenger side had the incorrect driver's side adjusters. And they were waaaay out of adjustment. The driver's side had the correct adjusters and were already adjusted properly. I think whoever did the j...

Re: Help with heater

I had the same problem so I bypassed the heater core, just looped the hose around. Its better but on a warm / hot day I get a lot of heat coming through the firewall from that big 390. Opening the vent helps some. I am going to check for an opening down by the column that might be letting the heat i...
