Need a 390

My 66 bird needs a new engine. We tore the old one down and it's a 352--and not really a good, rebuildable core. I'm looking for a 390 engine/short block with a standard bore that I can fetch in driving distance: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, or Arkansas. (Shipping would be crazy expensive.) Can anyone h...

That's a good working theory! Thank you! Will take a look and see.

Need a fresh look, please!

Since you all are familiar with all sorts of interesting mods, please take a look at this one. My 66 Landau has factory air and is a survivor--which means there are patches upon patches. My car appears to have TWO thermostatic switches. One appears factory and the other aftermarket. The electrical p...

Re: Need help identifying vacuum lines and with thermostatic valve

The only diagram I have for the vacuum lines is just for heat and air. Are there any others available?

Need help identifying vacuum lines and with thermostatic valve

I am trying to figure out the mysteries of my 66 Landau factory a/c car. It's a survivor that has had people tinkering with it for 50 years. In the picture of the hoses, can someone identify the left and right vertical hoses? The middle hose is for the rear vent and that horizontal hose above is to ...

Re: Changing the ratio in the steering box?

Did some calling and talking today and, while I'm sure someone, somewhere, has done it, for me: it's a snipe hunt. (I did see the "conversions," but I am not altering my steering column/shaft/whatnot.) I talked to Redhead and decided to use one of their units, as they work to get the exces...

Changing the ratio in the steering box?

Anyone here have any first hand experience in changing the ratio to 15:1 in their '66? Looks like Redhead steering would be able to change the ratio if I did a rebuild through them. Is it worth it? I've been reading on the forums and it seems stock steering ratios might be scary at highway speed? I ...

Replacing steering gear box

I have a '66 Landau with a/c, and my steering box is leaking like a sieve. I have done a search and see how people (Redbird) recommend removal, but what about getting the thing hooked back up? Any tricks/tips for splining the gearbox shaft to the steering shaft? If I replace the isolators at the sam...

Where is the temperature regulator for the heater?

My '66 Landau was originally a Florida car and hasn't had a heater core connected in ten years or more--even the heater hoses were removed. The new heater core is installed, but the location of the temperature regulator is a mystery. I don't even know if it's still there, somewhere--it could have be...

Re: Secondary vacuum canister?

Thank you both, I think the culprit has been spotted--at least a stub of vacuum hose that should led to it has been located!!! Appreciate the guidance!
