Calyx - other uses?

After searching and reading the comments in this forum, I ordered and applied Calyx manifold dressing to my 57's rusted exhaust manifolds. I was very pleased with the result and was wondering what else would Calyx work on? My transmission ( Fordomatic) has some surface rust and was wondering if it w...

Re: Clock

The same happened to me. I removed the clock (what a bear of a project), took it partially apart - and it started working. I oiled it and replaced it. It's been working for a year now.

Re: Manual Steering conversion

I have a 57 TBird with factory manual steering. I don't notice any difference in normal driving. I find it a little hard when the car is not moving, but not intolerable. I am 68 and have no problem.

Re: Steering gear box removal

Thanks Birdman - with your help and that of others on the forum I pretty much finished the job. I only need to attach the pitman arm to the drag link and I'm done. I'll do that tomorrow. I decided to not do the column and just do the box, mostly because of time and the fact that Prestige Thunderbird...

Re: Steering gear box removal

Thanks Birdman - I checked the site you posted. Looks like some scary stuff. I've decided to just reinstall the steering box at this time and leave the upper column chrome for another day. I was able to slip the full steering column off the box shaft without removing the signal light wires ( there w...

Re: Steering gear box removal

Birdman - Thank you. I would like to replace the chrome parts on the steering column as well. Did you have to remove the steering wheel? After loosing the clamp on the shaft by the box, I removed the steering bracket screws and slid the steering column ( with the wheel still attached) just enough to...

Re: Steering gear box removal

Birdman, thank you very much -that was a big help. Removed it today and having it rebuilt. I did in fact remove the steering column. Any tip on reinstalling?

Steering gear box removal

This is a continuation of my steering issue set out in a previous post. After separating the drag link from the pitman arm, I noticed the same slight "drag" or "resistance" in the steering wheel, which leads me to beleive the steering gear box is the culprit ( it has been leaking...

Re: Possible steering problem??

FYI for those who are interested, I finally separated the drag link from the pitman arm. I ended up getting a free rental tie rod type tool from O Reilly's Auto. The parts separated in seconds. I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon and this morning trying everything from a pickle fork, hitt...

Re: Possible steering problem??

ICON, Thank you very much. I was under the car looking at and feeling the joints. I suspect it is coming from the steering gear box but not completely sure. That is why I want to separate the pitman arm from the "drag link" -but It seems frozen. Any thoughts on how to separate them? Also, ...

Re: Possible steering problem??

Okay, still need help please. I lifted the front wheels of the car off the ground and had my daughter turn the steering wheel back and forth as I checked the connections underneath. I just can not determine where the problem is. I hear a slight noise but can not tell where it's coming from. There ( ...

Re: Possible steering problem??

Thank you for your comprehensive response. Looks like I have a little work to do. I greased the fittings and checked the steering box fluid a couple weeks ago - so it looks like I need to get under the car -and thanks again!

Possible steering problem??

Don't know if I have a problem. Over the last couple of rides in my 57 I noticed a slight resistance in the steering wheel when turning right. The resistance appears as the wheel passes through the 2:00 to 3:00 position and then disappears. It feel as though the tire is passing through a "rut&q...
