Re: Speedo Drive Gear 8 tooth

Hello meangene, When I rebuilt the Cruise O in my 64 I found the gear on eBay. When you go on there just look up "Ford speedometer gear" and I bet you'll find it. They used these same type of speedometer gears until the 90s I believe, just check the inner diameter and pictures for the list...

Re: 1963 Thunderbird Hardtop Restoration

Thanks you guys, I really appreciate it! I am definitely going to pick up the VTCI Manual for both my 63 and 64, once I finish my current project and the garage is free I plan on going all out on getting the Bullet and the Flair done

1963 Thunderbird Hardtop Restoration

Hello! I recently got a 1963 hardtop that I am going to start restoring soon. It is a straight and rustfree car from the Bay Area that was mostly complete, with the exception of missing a few small parts and having an early 70s 2 barrel F series 390 as opposed to its original 390. I will post update...

Rebirth of a 64 Hardtop - Part 2

Hello everyone, I am back with some updates on my Tbird! I am glad to see everyone enjoyed my first post, so I will definitely keep posting my progress. So right after my last post, I cleaned up the COM's bellhousing and clear coated it. After installing it, the COM was finally done, now just gotta ...

Re: Rebirth of a 64 Hardtop - Part 1

The term "Special Order" is almost always used incorrectly. This would have had to be a Pre-sold Unit(PSU). PSU means someone went into the dealership and ordered the car with the options and colors they choose. Special Order refers to a car that as something, not was not really available...

I believe you made a mistake, my data plate has code C not code G

Oh don't worry, this car is for sure going back to its original color, I got a new paint gun and air compressor ready for it!

Re: Rebirth of a 64 Hardtop - Part 1

Thanks for all the comments! Yes I am definitely going to keep the front disc brakes, that was one of the few upgrades I wanted to do anyway so I was glad when I found out this car had some installed. Unfortunately along with that upgrade, the previous owner decided to start welding the holes for th...

Rebirth of a 64 Hardtop - Part 1

Hello all! I decided to share the restoration process of my 64 HT so far. Before we dive into the bird I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Dylan, I am a 19 year old part time college student/full time worker working on my second restoration. My first restoration was a father - son project on a ...

Re: 1964 Engine Original to Car?

Yep I would of loved to see it in its original color! Unfortunately it looks like it got painted over many years ago into a light blue, not a trace of the gray left other then in some small areas

Re: 1964 Engine Original to Car?

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately my car's build sheet is missing, but I am definitely going to get the gate release sheet from Marti Auto Works. On a side note my car came with paint code C, or Gray Metallic. According to the data plate information sheet posted at the top of this forum that was a ...

Re: 1964 Engine Original to Car?

Thanks for the reply! And yes this motor is going to be rebuilt, stripping it down now to get ready for the machine shop (this is actually my first solo restoration, the last one being a father son project last year on a Fox Mustang). The casting numbers on my motor are all close, but only the intak...

1964 Engine Original to Car?

Howdy all! I just pulled the 390 from my 64 Hardtop and am trying to figure out whether or not my engine is original to the car (or at least get a good idea if it could be). The date on my VIN tag is 05F or June 5, 1964. From my research I have done on here and on other parts of the internet the dat...
