Re: Proportioning valve '65

I can't speak to your specific problem, but on my 64 (I assume the inner fender panels are the same), removing the panel wasn't difficult. Have a look at the bolt pattern in the Osbourne Body manual and you will see it's not really a difficult job. Digging the gunk off is straight forward, it seems ...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

Scott, I feel badly about hijacking this thread. but I think we're done with vinyl and back to painting anyway. The outer ring was done with silver argent paint, it just doesn't show well in that photo. You can see on the right hand side that the paint line did not turn out cleanly when I removed th...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

I can second Scott's comment on masking the wheel disks. I did mine on my 64 some years ago and it was indeed tedious with the results less than I had hoped for. Since I have never strived for concours correct, at a later date I redid them using the black vinyl decals from John Draxler. If you don't...

Those panels look great. Can you share with us the technique?
Thanks

Re: What is this called?

The point of my post was that there are many differences between the 3 Flairbird years and not knowing which year we are trying to assist on often makes us look like fools. As my signature says, my car is a 64 and the radiator shroud seems to be different. It looks like jtschug has identified it. Te...

Re: What is this called?

Please see my post on "remove bearing shift selector". Tough to help at times.

Re: Remove bearing to replace gear shift selector?

This is a constant frustration. Although this thread is called 1964-1966 Thunderbirds, they are not the same cars. The 64 horn system (my car) is different from yours. I now understand this because you say your have 2 contacts. I also assume, from your post that you have replaced some of the screws ...

Re: Remove bearing to replace gear shift selector?

Sounds like the contact brush on the spring popped out of the hole when you were installing the steering wheel. The spring has to be long enough so that the carbon brush makes contact with the ring on the underside of the steering wheel, but not so long as to let the brush flop over. Can be aggravat...

Re: What is this called?

I'm at a loss. The part looks right angled in your photos. The location where you are holding it in the second photo looks like the area housing the A/C receiver/drier under the top fan shield. I don't recall ever seeing anything there in the several times I've had the dryer out. Good luck Terry 64HT

Re: What is this called?

I think it's just called "hood to radiator support seal". I've seen it in most of the supplier's catalogs.

Hope this helps

Re: Remove bearing to replace gear shift selector?

While you are in there, replace the bulb in the shift indicator. Also check the condition of the horn contact brush. Easy to replace these (if needed) now.

Re: Remove bearing to replace gear shift selector?

There is a clamp holding the wiring harness further down the steering column. It is accessed from below the dash. I don't recall whether it is on the top or bottom, but once you begin checking, it is easy to find. It needs to be removed completely and the wiring fed up through the hole in the column...

Window channel felt

I see that window channel felt is available in 2 5/8" width. Is this wide enough for the front window channels. Does anyone have an idea as to how much (in feet) I would need for both front windows (front and rear channels)?

Thanks

Re: Wiring problems

Ford did a field modification to the wiring circuit for the brake lights on the 64's. The load from the 6 bulbs was too great on the hydraulic brake switch mounted on the master cylinder, so a relay kit was sent out for dealer installation. The harness from the switch was replaced and a relay instal...
