Re: Tablet navigation as stock

I admire the ingenuity used to mount a tablet on the dash of a '56 Thunderbird. The problem I have, when I drive my '56 in Atlanta traffic, is that it is all I can do to concentrate on safely operating my car. I cannot afford any distractions. Most other drivers do not appreciate the fact that you a...

Re: Battery

If you are interested in retaining the OEM appearance of the engine compartment, then purchase the reproduction Power Punch battery. Otherwise, the NAPA battery is fine. I entered my car in AACA Class Judging that requires battery. . ."must be visually of the era of vehicle manufacture." S...

Re: Anyone looking for a Car Capsule for their T-Bird? (not a for sale ad)

I have had the the Car Capsule Showcase for two years and it works well. Keeps the car clean and dust free. Moreover, the car doesn't have to be clean before you use it, since nothing touches the car.

Re: Seat Belts for a '56 Fiesta Red Tbird

I have Fiesta Red seat belts from Concours Parts in my '56. They were installed in 2013 during the restoration, and they have performed flawlessly without showing dirt.

Re: Door Alingment

Shims were sometimes used at the factory to help make the doors align. In some cars that have been restored, the shims were removed without noting their location on the body. For the doors to align properly, when the car is reassembled, the shims need to be replaced in their original location.

Re: 1956 getting hot.

Like you, I have a '56 Thunderbird. I live in Atlanta where 90 degree plus days are common in the summer. I have the six blade fan, the high flow water pump and the electric cooling fan. Still, I have experienced vapor lock. Last year, I was taking my car to the upholstery shop to have some work don...

Re: 57 Values today

In general, prices of 1950's cars are down. That is because there is a shrinking demographic of interested buyers. Vintage car buyers crave the cars of their youth. Baby boomers are aging and looking to sell their cars. Younger buyers are not interested in these cars. They don't care about owning ca...

Re: Oil Bath Conversion Question

When I restored my '56 Thunderbird, I purchased the reproduction "Dry" Air Cleaner. It looks like the original and is low maintenance.

Looks like a professional job. You should be proud. After all, we don't actually own these old cars--we are just stewards preserving the past for future generations to enjoy.

Re: Wire wheel covers

I agree with ICON 56: "I feel the skirts make the iconic look." The '56 Thunderbird has very little brightwork for a 50's car. Ford made the right decision to not include the Fairlane-style trim. The stainless trim on the fender skirts contrasts well with the body color and gives the car t...

Re: Wire wheel covers

I have both the clipless wire wheel covers and fender skirts. Neither has given me any problems, and I drive my car approximately 1500 miles a year.

Re: 56 Tbird 15" steel wheel

Kelsey Hayes made the wheels for the '56. Be sure to look for the letters K-H stamped near the lug holes to make sure you have OEM wheels not reproductions. I have seen full sets offered on eBay. Good luck.

Re: 1956 replacement arm rests

In 1956 no one could have predicted that these cars would still be desirable and around 64 years later. It was anticipated that a '56 Thunderbird would be traded for a newer model in two to three years. Ford built them with that thought in mind. Many of today's reproduction parts are superior to the...
