Re: USA-230 Radio

My '64 radio has a couple FM buttons, is that different on other years?

Re: Anyone experience this?

I've had the same thing and it seemed to be wheel or driveline associated. My first sensation was wheel/bearings but it was very speed dependent exactly as stated in the service note above. It came and went over the course of a drive and seemed to have a little to do with the load on the engine. Thu...

Re: vacuum advance questions and Petronix install/ignition findings

Yikes, that must indicate that current was leaking through the ignition unit.

Re: Single-Vacuum vs. Dual Vacuum on Distributor?

If there's nothing wrong otherwise with your distributor you could just replace the vacuum advance unit. I had to do mine because it leaked down under vacuum, and I discovered in the process that it had never been adjusted when it was installed. This amounts to two screws and a c clip on the end of ...

Re: Pertronix to suit 64

I put a 71281 Ignitor 3 unit in with a 44011 Flame Thrower 3 coil. I know you're after Ignitor 2 but that's what I know to have worked out correctly.

Re: vacuum advance questions and Petronix install/ignition findings

Steve, did you pick up any vacuum when you went to the electronic ignition unit? I'm a bit surprised.

Re: Pertronix to suit 64

I recommend calling them to be sure. The only advice I can give is that the ignitor 3 module had a 'd' at the tail of the part number for dual points. My '64 part number was without the d.

Re: Single-Vacuum vs. Dual Vacuum on Distributor?

Here's a thread worth considering if looking at distributor options, MSD doesn't fit well under hood, Pertronix unit had spark quality issues, MSD was adjustable...all in an EFI world...

Re: vacuum advance questions and Petronix install/ignition findings

Thanks to all for the help, I managed some time to work on this. I pulled the ignition switch out of the dash in an effort to get past the infamous 'pink resistor wire' and found that I didn't want to chase that any further because the pink wire junction onto the ignition doesn't occur until the wir...

Re: Single-Vacuum vs. Dual Vacuum on Distributor?

A few comments on this, I'm coming at this from a '64 which doesn't list any double diaphragm units as replacement...hopefully somebody else can help with that: 1. Why are you replacing the distributor? 2. If you're interested in better technology over originality, it makes sense to consider electro...

Re: coil/starter relay connectors

Thanks, been through a half dozen parts places here in Calgary with most saying they've been gone for a few years. Napa here should be able to get them here too.
