Re: Colonial White with Peacock hard top

David Tulowitzky keeps a registry of 55-57 T birds that will allow you to estimate (by doing a little math) the approximate number of 56's made with this color combination. He would appreciate it if you would send him your data plate information which he may, or may not, have in his registry. I got ...

The above is a really good idea.

Re: HELP! Putting a basket case 56 T Bird back together...

Oldguy: That doesn't look like a basket case to me, paint & body look awesome to be 10yrs old! Can't help with a nearby car but the following books/flash drives should help: 1949-1959 Ford car Parts & Accessories (Text & Illustrations), flash drive $21 (about 1,800 pages in total); 1955-...

Re: Car stalls when key is released!

May be a long shot but is the brown wire that goes to the coil on the "battery" side of the starter solenoid; Red w/ blue stripe on the starter side of the solenoid?

Re: 1957 Seat Recovering Process

Nice job Splash!

Did you use the zip tie method discussed by MarkR or the near impossible hog ring method to tie the wires together and then tie the sub-assembly to the frame?

I just redid a 57 seat bottom using zip ties and it so much easier.

Re: Steering Box Bottom Seal

Icon: Yes, I have watched that video many times and if you look one or two minutes in it shows the install of this seal. In fact, it is the first reassembly work he does. He doesn't mention "lip in" or "lip out" but to my eyes he does install the seal "lip in". The 55 s...

Re: Steering Box Bottom Seal

Thanks Hiampen & Paul: There is no double lip on the seal and I do have power steering. I did not know that the needle bearings tend to move at the limits of travel L & R but can check that pretty easily before the re-install of the seal. I did check the sector shaft in the general location ...

Steering Box Bottom Seal

About 8 months ago I installed a new bottom seal in the steering box during a complete frame-off for my 57. It held fine until I started exercising the steering gear to its limits about a month ago. It started pouring after that. I can find nothing in the literature about which way this seal gets in...

Re: 57 RH Inner Fender Holes

Thanks everyone for the replies. Sounds like it varies so I won't worry about it anymore. I have been using a Minter's car, specifically the D code that sold on Bring a Trailer for $77,777, as a "go-by" whenever I get stuck on a detail. This car shows it above the vertical portion (and I d...

57 RH Inner Fender Holes

My 57 has two holes in the RH inner fender which I believe to be factory done. These two holes are shown in the photo below with arrows pointing to them. Can anyone tell me what went there?

Re: Flex Plate with Fordomatic

Thanks again Jim: Yes, I am talking about the three spacers that are about the same O.D. as the crankshaft flange and with six holes. But the purpose of them is to ensure you get proper engagement of the torque converter hub "ears" with the front pump drive. You absolutely do not want to r...

Re: Flex Plate with Fordomatic

Thanks Jim & Paul: That was a good thread from the Ford barn but still seemed to be some disagreement about spacer locations for different posters. I will re-look in the Fordo manuals to see if they offer any help but don't remember seeing any there. This was a really bad job on my part during d...
