Re: White landau top vinyl

I have done upholstery on collector cars for 25 years and, unfortunately, had to deal with SMS. That is not an attractive option. When I needed to remove those nasty drive nails I started by lifting them a little with my tack remover. Then when I could get a grip on the head with pliers they could b...

Re: Hard power steering at low speeds

The one time I tried putting the car in neutral and revving the engine a bit, and then letting it go back to idle and putting the car in gear did not help. The steering was still very hard until I got the car to about 10 MPH.

Hard power steering at low speeds

My 1962 Tbird has very light steering when going down the road, which a have been told is normal. However, when starting the car in a parking lot and starting to move there is no power steering assist and the steering is difficult, until I get up to about 10 MPH. After that there is the normal assis...

Re: Upholstery options

I have done upholstery on collector cars for 25 years and am now retired. I have dealt with SMS in the past and found them to be very unsatisfactory in shipping times and customer service and the quality of the items they sent to me. I would only deal with them if there is no other alternative. Go t...

Re: Vinyl Seat Cover Dye - need sourcing & advice

A lot of auto parts stores or auto paint stores will have the SEM products. You will need everything recommended by the manufacturer, such as the vinyl cleaner, the adhesion promoter and the color spray. Follow the instructions exactly and the results well be great on areas that get little wear but ...

Re: Need Recomendation for Insurance Carrier

I have 4 cars insured with the National Corvette Museum. They are a 1962 Thunderbird, and 1991, 2000 and 2002 Corvettes. The total premium is $ 713 for a year.
You do not need to own a Corvette to get insurance through the NCM.

Re: Need Recomendation for Insurance Carrier

I have my 1962 T-bird and 3 Corvettes insured with the National Corvette Museum. I do not believe you need a Corvette to get insurance.

Re: convertible top question

Stayfast is a very good, high quality top material. It is resistant to stains, does not fade, and looks great. A stayfast top should last longer and looks better, in my opinion, than any vinyl top. Robbins makes a very good quality top. Only go with the vinyl if you want your car to be show correct....

MY INTRO AND 3 DIRTY CORVETTES, 1 CLEAN THUNDERBIRD

Last week I bought a nicely restored 1962 Thunderbird. Yesterday was nice and sunny so I got it out with my supercharged turquoise 1991 Corvette coupe, my torch red 2000 convertible and my electron blue 2002 Z06. Since getting the Thunderbird I have given it a good wash, clay barred it, buffed the p...

Re: Block casting date question

Thank you for the reply. I am going to question you in an attempt to learn. From what I have read the casting number B9AE6015 is decoded this way: B is for the 1950s, 9 is for 1959, AE is Ford engine, and 6015 is engine block. If this is correct then it would be a 1959. I can see how 8AE:2 would be ...

Block casting date question

I recently bought a nicely restored 1962 Bird. I checked the casting numbers on the passenger side of the block and it appears to be B9AE6015. It would appear that this car has a 1959 352 in it. I found no date code near the oil filter adapter on the drivers side of the block. The only other number ...

1962 intake manifold.

I would like a correct 390 intake manifold for my 1962 Thunderbird. How do I tell one from all of the different 390 manifolds or are they all the same? Or would I be better to get a more modern aluminum one that would fit? I also would like a correct Autolite 4100 4 barrel carburetor, which should b...
