1966 Thunderbird hardtop- lots of new parts
1966 TBird, Candy Apple Red with black interior, strong 390 engine, everything works except A/C (underhood components long gone), open the vent windows and enjoy the ride! I have matching fender skirts and the original air cleaner. Tires are nearly new. Minor transmission leak (easy fix). An ideal c...

Re: Everything dead but headlights
It was the switch. Got it cranked, car stopped a few feet from a speeding freight train, then 3 more times before I got home (a few blocks away). Connections look very sloppy, I'm going to replace them one at a time, should fix the problem.

Everything dead but headlights
Dropped my 66 off at a shop for a fluid and filter change. They called and said they couldn't start it, got there and found the headlights burn brightly but no power windows, dash indicator lights, start, etc. Dead as a doorbell except for headlights. Where should I start looking?

Re: Looking for Options on Door Panel Repair
These door panels are really the weak link of the whole interior. If any technician that worked on the inside of the doors back in the day would immediately tear out the tarpaper that was there to protect the door panel from water and never replace allowing the rain to rot away the bottom. Geez- I ...

Re: Smoke coming off of exhaust manifold
I agree - smoke that is distinctly white is something other than oil, which produces gray smoke. As in the kind you see following a car that needs a ring job.

Re: Plea for power window motor sources
At any given time there are usually some for sale on Ebay. They are not new motors but are usually working. While there are not any today, I found a completed auction from Dec 8 where someone picked up a pair for both doors. Buy it Now was $99, they made an offer and got them. http://www.ebay.com/it...

Dodged a bullet....
Today I decided to take my '66 out for a final cruise before putting her away for the winter. All was fine for a few miles, but while cruising down a country road suddenly the accelerator dropped and didn't return. I hit the brakes and fought the engine which was at full throttle (fortunately my tra...

Re: Another power window Problem
Am I correct in thinking since the windows AND seats AND dash lights are not working it's probably an issue with that circuit breaker? Or do does the power to all three of those run through that window relay located on the engine side of the fire wall? Once these electrical systems get 50 years old...

Re: 66 Front Suspension Rebuild
Reading this thread makes me very appreciative that my '66 , which needed a lot of work when I got it, steering and suspension wise only needed inner tie rod ends- all else on the front end is great.

Re: Another power window Problem
Once you find current passing through the breaker, start looking at any relays in the circuits. The power window relay is probably ripe for replacement if original. Then check the plugs under the console switch unit. Pull them apart, clean the terminals and put a dab of dielectric grease on them. Sa...

Re: Ammeter does not work on my 66
Not sure what your problem is, but I can tell you that mine, while it does work, only moves a tiny fraction of an inch when charging. You need reading glasses to see the movement.
