the 1955 rear is a dana 44 but called a spicer randys ring and pinion can get you a 2.80 grar set

You can use the t bird shifter on the c4,just tinker a little bit

I have a 393 windsor c4 in a 1955,i did disc and power steering.i found it would be a lot easier installing a 302 size for fitment but the mistake i made was not installing a aod,car is great except on super highways with 373 gear the motor is at 3000 rpm .i will change someday

i know this is cheating,but 25 years ago when i got this car i had dash trouble.i removed 2 7/16 nuts that hold the speedo attached and never put them back,now i can lift the instrument cluster straight up anytime i had to do anything around the dash,never put the nuts back on stays in place,no prob...
