Re: Pickup Headders on 66 Tbird
I JUST intalled a set of Sandersons on my 64. They went in pretty well, I had to chop about a 1/2 inch off of the overlapping metal plate on the wheel well on the passenger side. The drivers side dropped right in. I havent taken it to the exhaust shop yet to finish it, but it looks like its going to...

Re: Pertronix Ignitor 3 or optionPP
I have the Petronix II in my T-Bird now. Point were wearing and I decided to try out the Petronix while doing a small top end refresh. I have used Petronix on my VW Bus for over a year and it is so far very reliable. And I was able to fire up the T-Bird with 1 turn of the key after the instal. I sti...

Running open shorties?
How dangerous is it really to run around with open shorties? I just installed ceramic coated Sanderson shorties on my 64 T bird. I am still working out the brakes, but will probably not make it to the exhaust shop to have the rest of the exhaust setup until after my next paycheck in 2 weeks. I have ...

Re: No front brake fluid from bleeder?!
On some MC's, you need to press the brake pedal down a little bit to allow fluid to be pulled from the resevoir easily. Another issue that pops up is the bleeder at the wheel may not have the tightest threads and when you apply vacuum, it's all lost just pulling air through those threads. Just barl...

No front brake fluid from bleeder?!
Hello everyone. I'm trying to get my nightmare of a 1964 Thunderbird back on the road. It blew it's brake booster due to a master cylinder leak, and blew the headgasket the same week. Well the headgasket is back in, I got it a nice set of shorty headers from Sanderson, and a duel chamber master cyli...

Re: Decent 390 Heads
Not being a wiz kid on performance engines, or builds I am of no help, I have built several engines, but always in original format. (restoration). I also feel that a trip over to the FE Forum, will give you more of a teckee answer that you are looking for. Give them a shot, you may pleased. Good lu...

Decent 390 Heads
Okay, I have researched heads for this car ad nauseum, and I just want someone who knows more than me to tell me what to do at this point hahahaha. The car is a bone stock 1964 Thunderbird with the 390 engine. It was never quick, but not slow enough for me to hate. But seeing as the head gasket blew...

Re: Headgaset Failure! Time for a rebuild. What do you think
Wow, thanks for all the replies! I was on another thunderbird forum a year or so ago and had to almost beg for help. Glad I made it here! I would like to re-core the original radiator. I am not an original look type of guy, and generally keep everything original unless it wears out, then I upgrade. ...

Re: Headgaset Failure! Time for a rebuild. What do you think
You might compare the cost of going through your heads and installing all the good stuff for unleaded gas with the price of just installing new Edelbrock heads. Also, aftermarket intakes wont have the breather/filler. You will need to replace the valve covers in order to have a way to put oil in. O...

Headgaset Failure! Time for a rebuild. What do you think
Hey everyone. Well it looks like the head gasket on my quasi-daily driver 1964 Thunderbird has blown. Seeing how deep I gotta go to swap the headgasket, I figured I may as well do a whole top end rebuild. I'm not sure if I should add more to this list, or if this stuff is even good! Is there anythin...

I think it's time for a rebuild...Cost?
Hey everyone. I have been reading and searching the best thing to do with my old tired 390. She drives pretty well (well, not I have some crazy vacuum leak and wont even stay running) but when she starts she smokes, leaks/burns oil, and feels a little sluggish overall. The car has over 100k on the e...

Re: New Member with a 64 bird!
I have all but the trim guide, they all came with the car actually! It was a one owner car that sat in the garage since the owner died in 1999. The wife traded it into a jaguar dealership in 2015, they changed all the fluids, tires, and brake and fuel lines. But it looks like they didnt touch the va...

New Member with a 64 bird!
Hey everyone! I have a 1964 thunderbird that is in my current fleet of daily driver classics. She's my nice weather daily, while the wet days get pushed onto the much cheaper to fix 75 beetle or 72 Vw Westy. I drove her regularly for about a year now and am parking her for winter, while she's away i...
