Re: 74 tbird super high idle.
The only reason for hi revs is too much gas. I suspect the carb is faulty. Call "Guaranteed Carburetor" in Florida for the correct carb for your 460.
PS if the secondary ports in the manifold are larger than the primary than it had a "spreadbore" carb originally.

Re: Cruise control help needed
There is a module on the speedo cable behind the dashboard that signals speed to the control module. Sounds like it may be the culprit as it is a mechanical gizmo and easily swapped out.

Re: 1979 Ford Thunderbird Heritage questions
The engine should not be damaged by fire unless water got into it. however it should be rebuilt with fresh bearings pumps and seals. I would be willing to give you $800 for the car.

Re: Carburetor options
Call a company in Florida named "Guaranteed Carburetor" with your info from the old carb and they will fix you up with what you need plus give a lifetime warrantee on the product. I use them for all of my resto projects and am very satisfied. They are great people to work with.

Re: 1979 Ford Thunderbird Heritage questions
I would caution you re the offer of $300 for the car by your neighbor as that is scrap price for the car. Also I would question whomever is telling you that the car is not valuable. These cars are a great value, they're solid quality cars and great cruisers.
