Did you ever find a spring?

I had the same thing. It turned out that one of the front springs was stronger than the other. I had a spare set of springs so I replace it. All level now. I had a 65 with weak springs and got new ones. Made a little difference.

Basically it was just a matter of cleaning the contacts and plugs. Once you figure out how it works it makes it easier to fix.

Yes I have the original equipment on it. I have replaced some parts. It's funny how everything else is working fine but the brake lights. I would like to go to the newer electronic box that does not have motors.

The brake switch on the steering column is working as it is sending electricity to the brake relay and the relay is working.

It's not hard to install. I did not use the original speakers. You can mount them in the doors or there are under the seat speakers too. The 66 had four speakers all mounted in the doors.
