Electrical wire.

G'day. Looking for some info from the electrical wizes out there. Recently I replaced the four wires that run along the drivers side rocker cover to the coil, temp sender, oil pressure switch and air conditioner compressor. The air conditioner wire was cut back to the firewall by a previous owner bu...

Re: Air conditioner clutch bearing.

I don't think so Cliff. They have a step in the shape, a shim to me is just a flat piece of thin metal. Then again I could be wrong.

Re: Air conditioner clutch bearing.

Thanks Claybreaker 144. Firstly I thought the spacers were made from aluminium, they are made of steel. I made a die up to straighten the face that was bent so I can reuse them. 61 is most likely different, there are some different varieties. The master parts catalouge doesn't have a very good explo...

Air conditioner clutch bearing.

G'day. I am in the process of reconditioning the air conditioner compressor clutch for my 63. When I pressed the bearing out of the clutch assy there were two what looks like oil slingers either side of the bearing. the one towards the front was between the snap ring and the bearing. They are made o...

Re: ford metric bolts

G'day. As far as I am aware and as Alan said the threads that are on a 63 Thunderbird is a Unified National thread form with the only exception being the spark plug thread. I haven't checked it but I was told the thread on a spark plug is metric. Do you have a thread gauge? A lot of the aftermarket ...

Re: Seat shield

I am just looking at removing the dents and scratches.
I did my stainless steel trims some time ago and they turned out good.
Just looking if anybody else has done it and for any tips.

Seat shield

G'day.
Has anybody had the aluminium side shields on the front seats re-anodised?
I am looking at knocking the dents out and sanding the shields back prior to having them anodised.
Does anybody know of any tricks or pitfalls.

Re: Carb tuning issues

G'day. Maybe they are not closing properly and one is holding the throttle open slightly. They can move when you go to tighten the holding screws up. I would double check everything else before pulling the carb down again. You could always just take the carb off, remove the top cover and choke and h...

Re: Carb tuning issues

Did you take the butterflies out and remove the shaft?
Or they were left alone.
Also maybe the dashpot maybe holding the throttle open slightly.

Re: Carb tuning issues

Is the accelerator linkage holding the butterflies open? Try disconnecting the accelerator linkage at the carburettor with the small clip.
Do you have to move the lever on the carburettor to have the hole line up with the linkage?

Re: elect switch removal

G'day. From memory I think you have to remove the panel. All that holds the switch in is a couple of tabs on the switch that is bent over. If you were to pry it out it probably would bend the tabs and allow the switch to come out but then you never would be able to get the switch back in and bend th...

Re: Gas cap

G'day. I own a 63 so there may be some differences. When I purchased my car it had a vent pipe as original which wrapped around the tank spout and a non vented cap. On some drives especially on winding roads up an incline and it would depend on how full the tank was I could smell petrol. It was so b...

Re: Engine wires.

G'day Jim. Thanks for both lots of the photo's. I have downloaded the photo's that you supplied the link with. A lot of information there. That will help me with a lot of other areas as well. A friend of mine had a 63 hard top some time ago and I went to have a look at it. He said that there wasn't ...

Re: Engine wires.

Thanks Jim the photo's and dimensions off both of the clips ( cowl and valve cover) would be appreciated. as all of mine are missing I will fabricate my own. Could you also send a photo and dimensions of the clip that is in the drivers side corner that holds the main loom to the cowl, that one is al...
