cracked block
Another method of repair for cracks in the side of the block is "pinning" the crack. I had this done once. They force pins into the crack sealing it up. Its more involved than just forcing pins into a crack but its been a long time since I had it done and I don't remember the exact procedu...

bushings
Hey, Ive installed quite a few of these and they are exactly the same as the originals so I had no problems at all with them. They did the job and there was no play. Usually the old bolt will have wear groves in them from the bushings and if yours don't that is pretty rare. but if your going to purc...

cracked block
Hi Kayjay, it is very common for 61-62 390 engine blocks to crack around the freeze plugs holes. This does not mean that the block is bad. There is a product called block sealer that you can use to seal up the cracks. Block seal is not a 100% fix but a 90% fix. This means that it will seal up the cr...

exhaust manifold bolts
Hi TB, the link 60fore sent you is very good. Follow these instructions. You don't always have to heat the head but if you don't and break off a bolt then you'll be sorry you didn't. Its my experience that you will need to loosen the bolt while the head is red hot. Don't wait for it to cool. However...

wheels
Spectre, you should be able to put any wheel on a 64 with drums. I don't know why your having a problem. Ive seen so many 64's with mags and such. Skirts can be an issue since they will hit any wheel that stick out more than the stock wheel. You can remove the skirts. No way to get around that unles...

Petronix
At my shop in L.A. we installed Petronix for years and used the original coils and never had anyone complain that the coils went bad or hard starting. I have one in my 66 and have had it in there for probably 8 years or more and it is still running strong and the car starts first time always. Well, ...

wiring
Hi 65Lucille, people don't rewire their whole car because it is far too cost prohibitive and the wiring looms are just not available. You can get the engine compartment loom from Allow Metal Products in New Jersey but nothing else. Most cars don't need to be rewired, they just need new switches and ...

weatherstrips
Hi, Thunderbird Headquarters is a great place to order parts especially seals. With vent window seals you will get all the rivets. The problem with those is it really takes special rivet tools to do that job correctly but most don't have them and it can be done the hard way without the tools, its ju...

Hi Teeron, you have a very nice car. The other one looks like an airplane with an airplane cockpit. Very cool. You can purchase stock shocks from Thunderbird Headquarters. Extra heavy duty shocks work well on 63 Thunderbirds in my experiences. There are many other Thunderbird dealers that you can go...

powerseat wiring
The power seat wiring originates from under the center console. There should be power seat wires under the carpet. If not then maybe someone took them out? The power seat wires are only a power wire and ground if memory serves me correctly, its a pretty simple setup. All you would need to do is find...

electrical gremlens
I dont know if this will help but when searching out electrical problems, always start from the beginning and work your way to the unit. For example, if the horns dont work, start from the power source and work your way to the horn. Or you can go backwards too. One thing you might check for, the mai...

shifter problems
Hi Jeff, it sounds like your wife must not have been in the car when it rolled back. I know this is too late, but one rule with any Thunderbird 58-66, never ever leave the car while it is running, they are notorius for slipping out of park. If your shift lever was in park but the car still slipped o...

steering column washer
Hi Paulr, the one that is not a perfect circle is the centering washer for the shift tube. The other is a washer that fits into the hub that holds the turn signal switch, that washer goes between the shift tube and the hub. You didnt really say what was wrong with your steering column, you just ment...
