Re: '64-'66 Solid State Convertible Top Relay Replacement

I'm out of boards at the moment and unfortunately I'm having a tough time finding the big power transistors that make it go (the only distributor that has them won't break a 2,500 piece reel which is over $23,000 so that's not happening). Electronic component procurement is still pretty difficult th...

55 black tbird

Automatic, power steering, power brakes w/front disc conversion, power windows, power seats. Has been converted to 12V negative ground. Mechanically decent, body has had been subjected to some mediocre "repairs" in the past. Look here for details: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/cto/d/d...

Re: Convertible top stoped midway - 911 - show in 4 days!

I detangled the shop manual wiring diagram once and I find it hugely helpful when trying to figure out what needs to be closed to make something happen, maybe this will help you, too (I'm pretty sure everything is correct but I may have some wire colors off still): http://www.cosmodog.com/tbird/topw...

Re: Deck Open Relay

This guide is really helpful: http://www.squarebirds.org/picture_gallery/TechnicalResourceLibrary/TroubleShootingConvertibleTop60-66Tbirds.pdf The bottom of the last page shows the relay positions for 64-66. Note that it's turned around from how you might expect; the front of the vehicle is toward y...

'66 grille, cowl, hardtop trim

I have a number of parts I'd like to pass along to someone who can use them. All prices exclude shipping. They're mostly kind of big so expect shipping to be around $50 from 60015. '66 Grille w/top trim, no emblem. $75 plus shipping '66 Cowl. Surface rust, solid, louvers appear to be straight. $50 p...

Re: 65 Convertible-threaded bolt near upper back panel limit switch?

It sets a hard stop for the panel. If you set it to stop too early the limit switch hasn't kicked over yet so the system can't advance to its next state. The point that it turns off the panel motor and turns on the pump is set by an adjustment on the back panel limit switch; you should adjust it the...

Re: 55 temp pegs hot when motor turned off

Maybe I didn't understand the question. When it's off, it should be pinned right (hot). When you first turn it on when it's cold it should move way left toward C. Once it's warmed up it should be somewhere in the middle. If you turn it off then shortly back on while it's still warm I'd expect it to ...

Re: 55 temp pegs hot when motor turned off

Yes, that's normal. The gauge works backwards from what we're all used to so it looks weird at first. If you really want to be sure get an IR temperature gauge and point it at the block near the thermostat after it's warmed up. Enjoy the ride! My '55 has been immobile for far too long; I need to set...

Re: Tail light reflector housing bolts?

I did exactly this last weekend -- I sheared two of those bolts while removing the tail light assembly. McMaster-Carr has something pretty close: https://www.mcmaster.com/screws/hex-head-screws/thread-size~1-4-20/length~3-4-2/head-width~3-8/material~stainless-steel/locking-type~serrations/ McMaster-...

Re: "66 How to remove steering wheel w/ cruise control?

The trim piece has two phillips screws in through the back of the spokes. Remove those and you can lift off the trim piece. After that it's like any other steering wheel. It helps to use a steering wheel puller.

Re: 64-66 convertible top rear tack strip channel

The old ones can be pretty far gone and still serviceable. Mine have holes rusted through and I took them off, ground off as much rust as I could with a wire wheel and sand paper, painted them with rust converting spray paint, and re-attached them. They look terrible but they're completely covered b...

Re: 65 convertible deck lid adjustment

The deck open limit switches set how far the deck lid opens before the next step takes place (these are mounted next to the deck hydraulic rams and have nylon lever actuators). The left deck open limit switch sets the deck open position when retracting the top, the right deck open limit switch sets ...

Re: 62 Convertible Deck Lid 'Droops' While Retracting Top

It sounds like you answered your own question but if that's not it then it could also be the deck solenoid valve. If that valve doesn't seal completely when off it can allow fluid to move when the deck lid is supposed to be held in place. This effect is more pronounced when the pump runs the top bec...
