R12 is still cheap and you can buy it on eBay and other places for around $10 a can. R134 is bad for the environment too and will be phased out soon. Thats one reason I don't wan't to buy a new AC system for my T-Bird. I wan't to wait for the next big thing. Maybe it was cheap on ebay a few years b...

Re: Help with a project

I'd like to customize them with some Thunderbird parts. He is going to grind out the part that says "Holley" so it's flat. The area measures 4" long by 2" tall. Does anyone know of a ornament from any year of thunderbird that would fit in this space? I was thinking of the Bird t...

Oops, I have a 64, and didn't know they'd changed it in 65.
Thanks for catching that Bob.

Perhaps someone else has been through the adjustment for a 65 steering box.

By the description it appears your steering box may need a little adjustment to the centering balance. I had to go through this after disassembling and replacing all of the seals in my steering box. It was a real pain to access and adjust using jack stands while installed on the car. I'd put it on a...

If you want quality, accountability, and you're not a tight-arse, then I recommend Don Blazer of West Hills collision on Barbur Blvd (near the ferry exit off I-5). They did the bodywork and paint on a carbon/fiberglas kit car I had assembled from a crate of parts, shipped from Slovakia. I can assure...

If the popping sound occurs with the engine off, and the radio volume becomes lower than the 8-track during the effect, it's a classic indication of bad silver-mica capacitors inside the I/F transformer cans. (I/F is an abbreviation for Interstage Frequency) The popping effect is intermittent. Some ...

About the only way to remove a preattached shoe from a piece of glass without breaking it is by using a heat gun focused on the shoe and rotate it to release the bond. The heat softens the acrylic adhesive. It's somewhat tricky, and you have to be very careful not to overheat it. Even the glass prof...

Thanks for the reply jhenry. I'd forgotten about the fact that I'd need to carefully prep the surface beforehand, as there's probably years of armorall or other butter applied. Alan, that's a great tip on the auto paint store. I'd never have thought of that. The Space Age Auto Paint store is close t...

I have done this conversion. If you need a step-by-step, you'd better take it to a shop. The procedure was about four hours total, including the system evac and charge. I did have to replace the clutch connector on the bird with a Delphi Weatherpack single pin connector that matched the compressor c...

Advice on Vinyl paint for interior pieces

Hi everyone, I searched through previous postings, and although much of it was helpful, there didn't appear to be a recommended brand of flexible paint for vinyl. I have a 64 cv with white interior. The seats look too good to be original, so I suspect a PO had them reupholstered 10-15 years ago. The...

Well, I had a look at my '64 cv and the 5/16 vacuum line running along the fender well with the harness feeds into a tee. With one side of the tee going to the fiberglas vacuum cylinder directly behind the battery, and the other side of the tee going back to the coffee can vacuum storage cylinder mo...
