Re: 62 front break conversion
If you've only driven these cars with drums and GM conversions, the GM conversions, if done properly, seem way better than the drums, and quite adequate. But once you drive one with the '65-'66 conversion, or any 4 piston conversion for that matter, you see how much better they are. If you're just g...

Re: 62 front break conversion
I'm surprised John didn't suggest what he did with that Black beauty. It's the easiest conversion - '65-'66 spindles, rotors, hubs, shields. Direct bolt on. John also changed the lower control arms, but it's not necessary. You just have to make simple mods to the stops. I did that conversion on a '6...

Re: painting my 63...
ATTN ALL: I am in process of redoing my convert. I am breaking car down to basic body. Motor out, interior out, trunk emptied, soft top removed, all trim removed. Have done some shopping around, and all who I have talked to, will not quote until seeing car. This means moving a rolling bare body to ...

Re: painting my 63...
I got prices for leather interiors from SMC and Original Auto interiors 2 or 3 years ago, for $1800. Their samples had the correct grain. The other outlets were $1200, but the grain of the vachette isn't the same as original. John's paint job was a while ago, and a similar job would probably now cos...

Thanks Alan, for not making us wait too long. For the record, hub caps cover just the center of the rim; wheel covers cover (wait for it...) the wheel.

Re: Major malfunction-bent pushrods
Wow! The prices have gone up steeply. I bought a new stock cam off ebay 4 years ago for $70, and there were several sellers that carried them.

Re: Blue Thunder Intake
Obviously, the carb is never level when going uphill or downhill, so it's not that critical while driving. However, when adjusting the carb after installing, or doing tune-ups, the carb should be level, or close to level. If you don't use a tapered spacer, just jack the fornt of the car up a little ...

Re: Major malfunction-bent pushrods
Since the engine has been unused for years, it's a good idea to at least change the front oil seal. I'd change the camshaft and timing chain as well, while the timing cover is removed. Stock cams and chains aren't that expensive, around $100 for both.

Re: Air Cleaner Dent Repair
It's a lot cheaper. I was referred to a contractor by a company that sells it. That $12-$14 figure sounds familiar, but the shipping would have been $30 IIRC. So, they told me to call one of their customers who was nearby. He added 200 lbs to his order, which was the next day. IIRC it's 80 grit. Mad...

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaner
That would be just the ticket for cleaning relays, switches, etc. That brings back memories, Alan. When in high school, I took a course in automatic heating. Our teacher said to use a dollar bill to clean relay and thermostat contacts. He said to get the dollar from the customer, that way you're al...

Re: Front wheel cylinders.
A lot of ebay sellers drop ship. I had stuff I ordered from nearby NJ, delivered from China! A lot of different sellers also sell the same items from the same warehouse. Some charge more, hoping to attract buyers who avoid "too cheap" merchandise.
