Grill Badge installation photo added

Post by SBird »

What are the dimensions of the badge for sale by the club??
Someone put a small ding in two adjacent fins in the parking lot. Why when we park far away do I always come out of the store to find cars parked all around me! Frustrated, hope the badge will cover the small but noticeable irregularity.

Just a statement of support. That is an interesting phenomenon that some people do. Clueless and care-less! My sympathies. And I kept it appropriate and family friendly,,how unlike me,,

Must be a world wide phenomenon Sbird. Our cars are 'Moron Magnets'. I had a guy park so close once I could barely open the door to get in. He was sitting in his car with the window down and when I approached, he said "nice car mate". After I said thanks, I asked politely why he parked so close when there was lots of room elsewhere, he then got real abusive and told me "if ya don't f@#$%ng like it, don't f@#$%ng drive it a$$h*le" (among a bunch of other expletives and threats) and refused to move!

Anyway, the club grille badge is 3" across.

Parking Lot Bruises

Post by John R. Thomas »

Some @##$%^ rubbed a quarter panel with his plastic vehicle.
The name plate is destroyed and the paint is rubbed off.
Why us? That's why I don't want to pay 6K for a nice paint job.
Our Natalie is a super nice #3 driver. I don't want a trailer queen.

I agree. I had a MAACO paint job on my '66 ragtop in '94, since that was all I could afford. I was disappointed because it didn't look like the finishes I saw on many show cars. After about a year, I got over that, and 20 years later the MAACO paint is still on. It actually looks more like the typical factory finish back then and nicks that have added character to the car. No trailer queen for me either!!!
'66 Ragtop, 77k miles. Antique bronze. Brought from original owner. Fully documented.

I also agree John. When I had my Belair builder I kept fighting in my mind how much I would drive it because it would all be new and I didnt want to mess that up.
As a a friend of mine says, if it looks good from 20 feet away, you have a nice car. I know all the small flaws, but nobody else really sees them.

The VTCI grill badge should be in the Country Store you will find a tab on the home page of the website at http://vintagethunderbirdclub.net/club_info.htm

I positioned the badge on my grill then used 2 3/4" diameter washers on the inside of the grill on the 2 bolts on the badge and they snugged up to the grill fins no problem. Once I had the badge in place and tightened down and put some wire heat shrink on the long bolt ends to protect from the elements.

Hope this helps.

Ozzy

I just remeasured and the washers are 1" in diameter not 3/4".

Thanks Randy, I' ve gone ahead with using some 3/4 " aluminum square tubing 2 1/2" long inside and outside the fins. Then a 1/4" spacer outside to make the badge perfectly vertical. I had to go get 3" long metric bolts to lock it down. The aluminum should look ok against the grill.
This is not simple to do, but badge must look sharp! And it cover my grill ding perfectly.

Sorry sbird.. Wasn't paying attention to the thread and addressed you as Ozzy.....glad you found a solution. I wasn't trying to mount mine so it was vertical....hiding a small curl in 2 fins and even at an angle still shows well.
