3"/front, 2"/rear drop... Too low?

Post by NickQ »

I'm preparing to lower my '65, but am having a hard time figuring out what level of drop is appropriate, since there's not a lot of information regarding dropped flair birds.

It's a '65 Landau, 390 auto (obviously), w/ AC.

Stock the rear sits almost an inch lower, probably due to sagging springs. Regardless, if I'm doing Jamco coils up front and blocks in back, is a 3/2 drop too low? Would a 2/2 be better?

Thanks!!!

I dropped my 66 2" in the front and none in the rear and it has a slight rake. I think I would have clearance issues if I went any more. It made a huge diff in the stance.

After changing to the shorter tires the gap between the tire and edge of the wheel well on my '66 was pretty noticeable. Changing to an aluminum intake and taking 60lbs off the front end made it worse. I had one coil cut off the front springs which dropped it about 2". The rear springs are a bit saggy so it sat almost level, just a slight forward rake. I removed the spare tire and hardware and that weight loss brought the rear end up about 1". Now it has a nice stance, I'd like to keep the rake but drop the whole car another inch. I think a half coil off the front and a 1" spacer in the rear will give me what I want.

I took this pic last weekend, it shows the stance pretty well. For reference, the tires are 235/50-17, they're about 25" tall.

Hi NickQ
I hope this helps.
Pic one is 11/2 colis removed which dropped the front Approx 3"
about 12 mths ago I fitted amother set of springs after only removing 1 coil i reckon she came up about 1".
So my guesstimate is One and a half coils = 3" 1 Coil = 2"
i'm about to start all this again as I'm fitting 17" wheels at the moment.

In the first pic the body sits at the top of the whitewall in the second it's sitting about 1" above the whitewall. Back has 1" blocks

Your car looks great. Where'd you get your 1" lowering blocks, Dave?

Hi WC145
I used 2" blocks and had them machined to 1"
