Yes, the car will run fine with the compensator disconnected.

Re: hard start/ hot soak?

My '61 does the same thing. She starts first time with ease when cold but after she gets up to operating temp and after a cruise around town, she takes around 5 to 8 seconds of cranking (which stays constant) before firing after sitting for anywhere between 15 to 40 mins. The fuel lines are new, the...

[quote="tmjsong1aolcom"]See if you can find Jim Wolf's site. I think there is a link on VTCI's site. Here's the link to Jim's site and don't let him catch you calling him a 'Wolf', he might hunt you down and chew your legs off  http://www.tbirdgarage.com/Site_2/Welcome.html Ozzy :smi...

Re: tire size

Although 14" wheels were originally installed, I believe that most if not all aftermarket wire wheels are 15". Tru Spoke in California do wire wheels from 13" to 18". I bought a set of 14's from them for my '61. Dave is a real nice bloke to deal with  http://www.truespoke...

Re: Starter drive operation???

IIRC, the starter has a bendix(there's an actual name for this but I can't recall what it is) that pushes the starter gear teeth out to mesh with the flywheel teeth. Once the engine turns over the flywheel speed overtakes the bendix starter speed and retracts the bendix and shuts off the starter. I...

I'm sure some 'convict' or 'pommie' will add to this thread (my nod to someone I miss dearly, the late VTCA/VTCI Director Don Donahue, who had a very close relationship with our Australian/New Zealand members in the '80s-'90s and brought some of their colorful lingo back for people like me to get a...

Count me as "among others" Kevin. That is one cool clock and one would go great in my office. Problem is I don't think they ship to Australia

No problem Kevin, I figured it was a typo but as you guys know so much more about these Birds than I will ever know, I just had to take the opportunity to get one in while I had the chance

Re: What is it

I removed mine and plugged the vacuum line after fitting a Quickfuel carb, with no ill effects. I would have kept the original 4100 carb set up along with the device but we don't have a competent carb rebuilder in this town. I did have the original one rebuilt but it came back worse than when I sent...

Re: What is it

It is factory fitted and increases the engine idle speed when the AC is activated. I believe it was fitted to the 1961 MY only.
